Ayaz Sadiq says higher education institutions shall equip graduates with latest knowledge.

ISLAMABAD: While expressing his profound respect for the teaching community, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has urged universities to play their role in the socio-economic development of the country.

During a visit to the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Thursday, he also praised the university’s achievements especially the new initiatives taken during the last one year.

“I am trying hard to deliver my responsibilities in most humble way, giving highest respect to my parliamentary colleagues and the staff of national assembly,” he said.

He said that special attention was also being given to consolidate the committees’ system of the parliament. AIOU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Shahid Siddiqui gave him a presentation about the university’s activities and its achievements for improving literacy rate in the country and providing affordable education to all segments of society.

The VC also briefed him about the university’s collaborative partnership with national and international institutions.

Siddiqui said that the university has introduced various community and research-based programmes in recent years.

He also briefed the speaker about the steps taken to bring about efficiency and transparency in academic, administrative and financial system of the university.
