KARACHI:

Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) demolished five illegal hydrants in Ahsanabad Scheme 33, off Super Highway, during a raid on Thursday. According to KWSB spokesperson Nazir Mateen, these illegal hydrants had been re-built by the hydrant mafia. The operation was conducted on the complaints of the residents of the area, he added. "We started facing sudden water problems, and then we came to know that our water was being stolen by the hydrant mafia," said a resident of the area Mureed Ahmed. KWSB managing director Misbahuddin Farid has urged the residents to register complaints against any water crises, claimed Mateen. The operation against hydrant mafia gained momentum after the issue surfaced in the Supreme Court hearings.
