KARACHI:

A social media campaign against missing manhole covers in the city managed to succeed on Tuesday after the chief minister (CM) warned officials to fix the manholes in two days or face the music.

Seeing his own face stenciled next to open manholes likely annoyed Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah as he expressed anger at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) administration on Tuesday.

“Is it my duty to fix manhole covers?” Shah questioned the KMC administration. Taking notice of the campaign launched by 25-year-old Alamgir, Khan the CM directed KMC officials to immediately address such issues faced by citizens. Shah warned officials of stern action if missing manhole covers were not fixed.

The CM’s Inspection Team will visit different areas of the city after two days and submit a report to him. “And if the gutter’s cap is fixed, I will write a thanking note,” said Khan after learning of the chief minister’s notice.
