AMSTERDAM: A 29-year-old Briton was arrested Friday at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport after he claimed he was carrying explosives, prompting the temporary evacuation of a departure lounge, Dutch media reported.

"We first checked if the man had anything on him ... then we searched his bags with dogs. We found nothing and the situation returned to normal," a police spokesperson told Dutch radio.

Making false bomb threats is a criminal act in the Netherlands, and the man will face charges after the case is turned over to a prosecutor, said Eric Vermeulen of the Dutch Royal Marechaussee.

Media reports showed pictures of the unnamed man splayed face down on the floor with a policeman's weapon trained on him before he was escorted away.
