Exploration And Production: Ministry aims to boost supply

ISLAMABAD:
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources is following an innovative and radical strategy to achieve self-sufficiency in the oil and gas sector by stepping up local exploration and production activities. “During the current tenure of the government, record 227 well shave been drilled which resulted in 65 new oil and gas discoveries,” official sources said in the ministry. With new discoveries, they said, over 1 trillion cubic feet of gas and 16 million of barrels of new oil reserves have been added to the system. The country, they said, was moving on a fast track towards achieving autarky in the energy sector.
