Guv’s word: Rs40m pledged for Abbottabad Public School hostel, gym

Top performers given Captain Akash Rabbani Shaheed award, Rs20,000 each

ABBOTTABAD: Abbottabad Public School (APS) organised an annual parents’ day event and invited Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan as the guest of honour on Saturday.  The governor, at the event, announced allocations for student activities and expanding facilities at the school.

“Education is like a triangle with students, parents and educational institutions serving as its three sides and all must play their due role in imparting education,” Mehtab told to his audience of teachers, student and parents.

Mehtab was all praises for APS and said, “[The school has] contributed greatly to quality education in the country as its graduates have carved a niche in different spheres of their professional life.” He called APS “a symbol of national pride” that has been spreading knowledge for the last six decades.

The governor also vowed to donate Rs2 million for students. He added Rs40 million will be given to the school to build a new hostel premises a gymnasium and renovate the swimming pool.

Principal Brigadier (retd) Muhammad Javed said the school has maintained its tradition and produced 100% results in the matric and intermediate examinations.

Mother of Captain Akash Rabbani Shaheed was also among the invited guests at the event. She announced the Capt Akash Rabbani Shaheed award, which will be given to the top performers of the school annually, starting in 2015. Her son was an APS graduate and was awarded Tamgha-e-Basalat (Medal of Good Conduct) after his martyrdom in the Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

She announced Rs20,000 annually to three best performing students. The governor gave the said award to Hamza Alizai, an eighth grader, Mushtaq Ahmed, a ninth grader and Hamza Jafar, the top performing student in the tenth grade.
