Trophies and certificates of appreciation were awarded to volunteers during separate ceremonies held on Saturday in Mohmand and Bajaur agencies.
The events were organised by Pakistan Red Crescent and held on the eve of International Volunteer Day (IVD). Designated by the United Nations in 1985, the day aims to increase awareness about efforts made to enhance social welfare.
The first event was held in Ghallanai and attended by Mohmand Assistant Political Agent Haseebur Rehman.
“As socially responsible citizens, we must engage in volunteer work,” Rehman said. “During the earthquake, volunteers served the affected communities without any discrimination. This shows that our nation is enthusiastic to serve society at large.”
He added it is important to encourage students to engage in volunteer work.
Speaking on the occasion, Government Higher Secondary School Ghallanai Principal Muhammad Idrees also highlighted the importance of volunteering.
“Every one of us should selflessly serve our community,” he added.
Separately, a similar function was held at a government school in Gardaí, Bajaur Agency where speakers underlined the importance of social welfare.
