RAWALPINDI:

Two persons were killed and two others were wounded in Dehri, Hassababad, on Wednesday when a gas cylinder exploded. The incident took place at about 2pm when two men were trying to dismantle an old cylinder with a hammer in their junkyard located in a densely populated area of Chaklala cantonment, rescue officials and police said.

Sher Ali along with his cousin Ajmal Khan were trying to dismantle the gas cylinder when the explosion took place in their junkyard. The explosion led to the immediate death of Sher Ali. Ajmal received serious wounds and later died at the District Headquarter Hospital.

Romanullah, 10-year-old boy, and army soldier Adnan Ali were injured after being hit with shrapnel from the blast.

The injured were shifted to the DHQ where the injured boy was operated upon. Police and emergency services moved the injured to the hospital.

No damage to the nearby buildings was reported. Sub-Inspector Amjad Perveez, who was leading the investigation, said Ali and Khan were tearing apart a small gas cylinder at their junkyard when it exploded. He said Ali left behind three children.
