Cricket matches can be postponed for the time being, says veteran Indian actor

Opposing a series with Pakistan, veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has said India should not resume cricketing ties with the arch-rival until situation at the border becomes “normal”.

"According to me, till the time our people are being killed on the front, matches should not be held,” said Anupam Kher on Sunday.

Not playing cricket will be a way to show sensitivity towards the bereaved family of Santosh Mahadik, a victim of recent shootout with militants in Indian-held Kashmir, added Kher.

“What I feel is we should show sensitivity and cricket matches can be postponed for the time being, till situation becomes normal,” said the Indian actor.

“When people stop killing innocents... then we will think. There is no urgency to play," he added.

The proposal for upcoming Pakistan-India series is pending approval from the Indian government, as the government gave clearance to the PCB for a bilateral series in Sri Lanka.

Both countries have not played Test cricket since November 2008 attacks in Mumbai; however Pakistan toured India in the winter of 2012-13 for a short limited-over series.
