Silent epidemic

KARACHI:

HIV/AIDS has been a global concern since its discovery, yet in Pakistan, it remains an overlooked and growing crisis. Alarming statistics reveal that over 210,000 people in the country are living with HIV, including 170,000 men, 41,000 women, and 4,600 children under the age of 15. This silent epidemic is spreading at an alarming pace, largely due to a lack of awareness and preventive measures. The spread of HIV is linked to several factors. Early symptoms of HIV include fever, fatigue, night sweats, and swollen lymph nodes. As the infection progresses, more severe complications like persistent infections, skin rashes, neurological issues, and even life-threatening illnesses emerge.
Preventive measures are critical in addressing this crisis. HIV/AIDS is not just a health crisis; it is a societal challenge that demands our collective effort. Breaking the stigma surrounding the disease, raising awareness, and practicing preventive measures are key to curbing its spread. It is time for Pakistan to take this epidemic seriously and act before it spirals further out of control.
