Polluted Lahore

KARACHI:

The pollution level in Lahore has reached a critical point, affecting the health and well-being of the citizens. The worsening air quality, largely due to vehicular emissions, industrial discharges and construction activities, poses serious risks to our respiratory health and overall quality of life. Recent studies have shown that Lahore often ranks among the most polluted cities in the world, particularly during the winter months. The smog not only hampers visibility but also exacerbates chronic health issues such as asthma and cardiovascular diseases. Our children and elderly citizens are especially vulnerable, and it is disheartening to see them suffer from preventable health issues.
Immediate action is necessary. The government must implement stricter regulations on emissions and promote the use of public transport, alongside investing in green spaces that can help filter pollutants. Moreover, raising public awareness about the importance of reducing personal contributions to pollution, such as vehicle maintenance and responsible waste disposal, is crucial. As residents of this vibrant city, we must advocate for cleaner air and a healthier environment. It is time for collective action to ensure that Lahore can reclaim its beauty and livability for generations to come.
