The recent disclosure by the Secretary of Railways that 67% of Pakistan Railways’ tracks are outdated is alarming. This revelation underscores the pressing need for comprehensive reform within our national railway system. While the redesign of the Main Line 1 (ML-1) project has reduced costs to $6 billion, it raises concerns about potential compromises in quality and safety. Moreover, the halted corruption investigation involving the employees further erodes public trust in the management of the railways. Such issues should not be swept under the rug; instead, they demand transparent and immediate resolution. To ensure the safety and efficiency of Pakistan Railways, I urge the government to prioritise modernising our rail infrastructure; ensuring strict oversight of the ML-1 project; and reviving stalled investigations. Without swift action, we risk further deterioration of a vital national asset.
