Actor Veena Malik says she only believes in maintaining a friendship with her career.

Actor, Veena Malik, who is known to stir up controversies and was linked to Bollywood actor Ashmit Patel post the reality TV series Big Boss 4, says that he was never a friend. Rather, she only believes in maintaining a friendship with her career.

“Ashmit was never my friend. We met in Bigg Boss [season 4] and after that we haven’t met. I am just working and have a friendship with my career,” said Veena.

Even though it appeared that Veena and Ashmit had bonded well during and after the show, with the two being seen together at various events, they never really gave a clear picture of their relationship.

The actor, who will be seen working alongside Ashmit in the film Supermodel, added, “I have no connection with anyone who I met in Bigg Boss. They don’t even exist in my life.”

Veena will next be seen in the upcoming film, Zindagi 50-50 which is scheduled to release on May 24. The movie also features actors Rajan Verma, Rajpal Yadav and Riya Sen.

Actor says she likes Aamir Khan’s acting, Salman Khan’s style and Shahrukh Khan’s romance.

While praising actor and nawab scion Saif Ali Khan’s sense of style, Pakistani model-turned-actor Veena Malik voiced her aspirations of working with all the three Khans of Bollywood.

“I love Saif’s sense of style. It comes naturally to him because he is a nawab. If a nawab doesn’t know how to dress up, then who will? He is a very stylish guy and I think Kareena [Kapoor] is a lucky woman,” said Malik.

“I would like a bit of Shahrukh [Khan], a bit of Salman [Khan] and a bit of Aamir [Khan]. I would go with Aamir for his acting, Shahrukh for his romance and Salman’s Dabangg style,” Veena told reporters during a media conference on Wednesday to promote her forthcoming movie Zindagi 50-50.

Zindagi 50-50, scheduled for a May 24 release, will see Veena in the role of a sex worker opposite actors Rajan Verma, Rajpal Yadav and Riya Sen. She was last seen in Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai.

Acknowledging that Bollywood has been generous to her, Veena said her success mantra is “quantity over quality”. “Bollywood has been very generous to me. It has welcomed me with open arms. I feel proud to be associated with it; I am working really hard.”

“I want to act in so many films, but I prefer quantity over quality,” expressed Veena. The actor is also working in film-maker Haroon Rashid’s The City That Never Sleeps.

Malik became a household name post her appearance in Indian television reality show "Bigg Boss Season 4".

Fielding questions about her raunchy MMS video that went viral, Pakistani model-turned-actress Veena Malik Wednesday clarified that the clipping in question was a scene from her forthcoming Bollywood film "Zindagi 50-50."

"It's a footage of one of the songs of the film that shows me and (actor) Rajan Verma... It is not an MMS clip, it's a clipping from the movie Zindagi 50-50," Malik told reporters during a media conference.

"Zindagi 50-50" is slated for a May 24 release.

The video that gathered millions of hits on social networking sites shows the actress in a compromising position with co-actor Verma.

"Its a beautiful scene... Beautiful intimate song sung by Rekha Bharadwaj. We are not romancing... It's an intimate scene between the characters Madhuri (enacted by Malik) and Birju (played by Verma)," Malik told reporters.

Having done a spate of films in Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi, following her debut in the Pakistani film "Tere Pyar Mein" in 2000, Malik became a household name post her appearance in Indian television reality show "Bigg Boss Season 4" in October 2010.

Since then, Malik has been in the spotlight for some controversy or the other.

"The relationship is such that even if I leave the controversies aside, they don't desert me. Wherever I go, controversies follow me... I dont want to talk about controversies," Malik said.

It seems like the spotlight stealer Veena Malik just doesn’t stop craving for attention. She disappointed some of her fans when she announced on April 1 that she had her private wedding ceremony with an Italian model John Espesito. She clarified her statement the next day when she spoke to The Express Tribune.
“It was a prank. I am not going to get married with only family and friends around me,” said the drama queen. “I will celebrate my marriage with the entire world.”

Currently she is in Punjab shooting for the film Dil da Mamala. “[On the set] the producer played a joke on everyone and said ‘The project has been called off, move out, pack up and leave’. We were all shocked, but then he said it was a mere joke. I thought I could also play a joke,” shared Veena.

“I am happy to know that people are eagerly waiting for me to get married,” she said. “But as for now, I am married to my career and my films.”

Actor says the Pakistani press needs to grow up.

Mostly in the limelight for controversies about her bold photo shoots and publicity stunts (we’re still not over the light-up bra!), actor Veena Malik, says that she loves the attention. “It feels great when people compliment you on your looks and skin,” she told The Express Tribune.

Veena, who was placed on the 26th spot of FHM India’s 100 Sexiest Women list, recently set a record by kissing 137 men in one minute, breaking actor Salman Khan’s earlier record. When asked why she resorts to such tactics for publicity, Veena was furious. “Please do not talk to me if you have to ask me this,” she said. “This was part of my film’s [The City That Never Sleeps] campaign. If Salman Khan can do it, why can’t I?” she deplored, adding that she feels the Pakistani media “needs to grow up”. In 2011, Salman got 108 kisses in a minute on the reality TV show Guinness World Record — Ab India Todega.

While talking about The City That Never Sleeps, the actor said, “It is my most recent project and for that we have opened two contests, one for selecting a singer for an item song for the movie and another one to select a couple required as supporting cast.” Veena revealed that the crew plans to break “20 more records” and that the kissing record was part of them.

The TV host-turned-actor is excited to see the response for her upcoming Kanadda flick Silk, which is scheduled to release soon. “It will hopefully be a grand opening in the South [of India] and I am eagerly waiting to see it happen.” She added that she is busy with the promotions of her films and will start working on other projects by May.

The actor hopes that people enjoy her work in her films Zindagi 50/50 and Mumbai 125 km and said that she will only accept “exciting offers” made to her from the Pakistani media. “Pakistani channels keep offering me different projects, but I will take up only one if it is exciting,” she said, adding that “it should not get monotonous” because she gets bored “very easily.”

Veena says she plans to make three to four more attempts at world records.

With her recent ‘world record’ of most number of kisses in one minute only a few days old, controversial actress Veena Malik claims she feels uncomfortable while kissing on screen Times of India (TOI) reported on March 1.

“Kissing is the most difficult part of my job” revealed Veena.

She said that she had to enact such scenes in her recent movie The Dirty Picture (renamed Silk Sakht Hard) and did not like them one bit.

This announcement comes after Veena was kissed 137 times in one minute, breaking Bollywood Actor Salman Khan’s world record of 108 kisses.

Veena said she was "ecstatic" at debuting in the Guinness Book, stating that she received "the respect that only elders deserve in our society" at the event.

“In our culture, kissing the hand is a sign of aehteram (respect) and people mostly kiss their elders' hand. So, I felt beautiful being given that kind of respect even though it was a part of talent hunt for my forthcoming film The City That Never Sleeps,” Veena explained.

The actress further announced that she plans to make three to four more attempts at world records.

Senator Humayun Mandokhel expressed displeasure over the absence of the secretary and the minister for Water and Power in a session of Senate's Standing Committee on Water and Power on Monday, Express News reported.

“If Veena Malik was here, they would have been present,” he remarked.

During the session headed by Awami National Party (ANP) leader Zahid Khan, the additional secretary of Water and Power Ministry informed that the blackout across the country occurred due to fault in the national grid.

He added that power has been restored in all areas of the country except Sindh. The process of restoring electricity in Sindh is underway, he said.

On Sunday night, around 70% of the country plunged into darkness as the technical faults in National Power Control Centre (NPCC) led to a blackout in all major urban centres including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, Hyderabad and Faisalabad.

Last year in January, Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Mushahidullah Khan had also called for Veena to be made a member of the Senate to ensure presence of all senators during the sessions.

He went as far as to suggest that Veena should be made the Deputy Chairman of the Senate.

PM gets arrest warrants in Pak, says Veena.

When micro-blogging website Twitter exploded on Tuesday evening in the wake of the apex court’s decision to issue an arrest warrant for Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, a user tweeted to singer-actor Veena Malik: “We want you as the next prime minister.”

The artist’s response was a witty, “But PM gets arrest warrants in Pak....confused.”

Veena later told The Express Tribune, “I follow Pakistani politics. I am a part of Pakistan so mujhe bhi bohot temptation hoti hai to keep up with the news. I follow everything on Twitter.”

When asked to share her views on the current political scenario, she said: “The arrest warrant for the prime minister came as a shock to me. Okay, log corrupt hotay hain or corruption hoti hai but, if the prime minister is involved it is shameful and shocking.”

Veena also said that she finds the current state of Pakistani politics amusing. “We had no idea who Tahirul Qadri is! All of a sudden he’s on the scene; he’s standing up for the nation against corruption, electricity shortage etc, but where was he before? His slogans seem so funny to me.”

At the end, Veena joked about the state of our entertainment industry, saying “No wonder Pakistan’s entertainment industry is not big — politics is entertainment! It’s comedic, political drama.”

Veena makes headline news all throughout 2012.

If you think you had enough of Veena this year, you’re probably right. There was not a single month in which she did not make the headlines. From one controversy to another, the drama queen left nothing to the imagination. Let’s take a look at how Veena made headline news in 2012.

Reel life

In June, Bollywood released Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai, starring Veena Malik and Jackie Shroff.

Veena also shared her excitement in May for the remake of The Dirty Picture in Tamil titled Silk Sakkath Maga which will star her. She was concerned that her character requires her to gain weight. “I have to put on weight for the film and I am not a foodie at all. I have never had three complete meals in my life but now I will have to,” said Veena.

Spy games and politics

Since her FHM photo shoot, she made a few statements saying she is not an ISI agent. However, in February, the Indian courts ordered officials to investigate the possibility of Veena being a Pakistani spy.

In August, Veena was quoted saying “Politicians are the biggest comedians”. According to her, veteran politician Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed was the biggest comedian amongst politicians.

The love life

It seems that Veena can never really forget her former lover cricketer Mohammad Asif. In May, when she was visiting Fiji, Veena shared how happy she was to hear that Asif was released from jail and sent a message for him: “I hope he has learnt his lessons in life. Firstly, never betray a girl and play with her feelings and secondly, not to fix matches and play with the entire nation’s emotions.”

Astaghfar

Veena wanted to repent for her sins on a Pakistani television show; but the people protested. In July, however, the show was subsequently aired. “If they want ratings, can’t they get scholars with good reputations instead of fuelling extremism by bringing such controversial figures on TV?” A Pemra official asked, adding that Veena and other televangelists are “hypocrites”.

Homesick Veena

September came, and Veena was homesick. “I do miss Pakistan a lot. After all it’s my home.”

Veena believes she has kept her roots intact and had not ended the relationship with Pakistan. “When you are a celebrity, there is propaganda and controversies related to you which are often exaggerated, but I have never crossed my boundaries. Pakistan is my country and I will go back,” she said.

Channo-ing

In March, Veena entertained us with her item song Channo from Indian movie Gali Gali Chor Hai starring Akshay Khanna. She informed her audience that it was a “beautiful song and concept”. The exaggerated thumkas in her mini ghagra-choli were enough to get your attention, but she went a step further to show off that glow-in-the dark bra.

Veena’s reaction to naysayers: “Who will determine whether it is vulgar or entertainment? The same thing another actress does, is entertainment, but if Veena Malik does it, it is ‘something else’.”

An ode to herself

Veena released her debut single Drama Queen, affirming that every girl will relate to it. “People do call me a ‘drama queen’, and to some extent I am one. I feel every girl is a drama queen. The lyrics of the song represent every girl out there,” she said.

Affairs and rumours

Veena dismissed her affair with film-maker Hemant Madhurkar as a rumour. She said Madhurkar is just a friend and a talented director, and they were just good friends despite the leaked pictures of them together.

In March, Veena dismissed speculation that she was going nude for her new film Zindagi 50:50. “I have never gone nude nor does the film have such scenes. There are a few bold scenes, but they are aesthetically shot,” she confirmed.

(Yet another) scandalous photoshoot

Before we could forget India’s FHM magazine photo shoot, Veena shocked us again in July. She stepped out in Bangalore for a shoot for her upcoming Tamil version of The Dirty Picture titled Silk Sakkath Maga.

In December, Veena shocked us with two more attention-seeking moves. She posed for a raunchy bathtub photo shoot titled Dry Clean.

Endorsements

In August, Veena endorsed an Indian aphrodisiac product Power Prash for men. “If Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan could sell a pressure cooker, why can’t I sell Power Prash?” she asked. While she wants the critics to just relax, she added: “I have a bright future ahead of me. I am an actress and I am going to give my 100% in promoting my endorsed products.”

Veena goes 'undercover' to find the perfect face for her upcoming film.

Ironically, the bold Veena Malik has been spotted on the streets of Mumbai wearing a black burqa.

According to a press release, she wants to avoid the mobbing crowd while she searches for the ‘perfect face’ for her upcoming movie, The City that Never Sleeps.

“It’s a big movie for me and I don’t want to take any chances, so I have decided to personally search for the perfect face,” Veena’s press release quoted her as saying.

“In Mumbai, everyone is an actor but we need to find the hidden actors,” she adds.

The movie is produced by Satish Reddy and directed by Haroon Rashid, and the cast will include Indian, American, and Canadian actors.

Talking to The Express Tribune, she said, “If Shahrukh Khan and Amir Khan can search for a character on the streets of Mumbai, why can’t I?” While Veena has been busy with various Bollywood projects, she says this one is really important for her.

“The city that never sleeps” is a well-known tag-line for cities like Dubai, Mumbai, Barcelona and New York — which is currently undergoing a natural calamity (hurricane Sandy). The cast members of the movie came together and prayed for New York in this terrible time. “It’s very bad — several parts of New York have been affected by the storm,” Veena said. “I am praying for all the people and my appeal is to refrain from going outside until the storm ends.”

The song was recorded in August last year and Veena has been busy with the video and photoshoots since.

If there is one person who knows how to stay current (and controversial) and milk their image to the hilt, it’s the bold and very unapologetic Veena Malik.

If you thought her shouting matches (and chemistry with Ashmit Patel) during “Bigg Boss” and topless photoshoot for FHM magazine were going to be her most controversial moments, Veena has ensured that she keeps the surprises coming. While struggling to make it big in Bollywood (or anywhere!) by signing on low-budget films with little known actors, the starlet has now officially launched her music career with ArtistAloud.com.

The starlet launched her debut single “Drama Queen” in New Delhi on Monday, and is hoping to work on more tracks for an album that is scheduled for release early next year. The album will host producers from across the world giving each song a different vibe, including collaboration with British Asian music producer Bups Saggu. The album is an exciting new venture for Veena aside from her film and TV career. “I’m so excited to release ‘Drama Queen’ to the world,” she said. “Everyone is always tagging me like this so I thought why not, let’s make a song on it!”

“People do call me a ‘drama queen’, and to some extent I am one. I feel every girl is a drama queen. The lyrics of the song represent every girl out there,” she said.

According to reports, the song was recorded in August last year and Veena has been busy with the video and photoshoots since. “The song is fun and cheeky at the same time,” said the starlet.

The video

Veena Malik has definitely been working hard to stay fit. In the video, the 28-year-old actor is seen dancing at a club in clothes that show off her sexy figure. She carries off different looks ranging from a metallic corset and an embellished gold dress, to a short bob in blue during a scene where paparazzi is filming her in a bathtub. While Veena isn’t the most fluid in her movements as a dancer, and some of her moves seem forced, we’ll have to admit the number is catchy!

Here are some of the lyrics:

Excuse me,

Mein hun queen,

Thodi snobbish

Thodi mean.

Sab se hot sab se spicy,

Koi nahi mere jaisi.

Cute and naughty mein hun yaar.

Karti hun bas khud se pyaar!

Hun hun hun mein drama queen.

Drama mama.

Itne sare hand bags,

Itne sare shoes.

Itni stylist, itni sexy,

Always in the news.

3, 4 chor na yaar,

Party jaoon in mehengi cars,

Mera driver lage super star,

Pyas laggi karidun bar!

Yeh princess hai priceless,

Your boyfriend tujhe kare minus,

Na kar paoge digest,

My T+ A ‘s the nicest!

The starlet misses home and says might come visit sometime soon

Controversy queen (and all time attention seeker) Veena Malik has been out of the limelight since her Ramazan stint on Hero TV’s “Astaghfar”. The actor says she is working in India but now missing Pakistan terribly.

Via a telephonic interview, Veena told The Express Tribune that she is homesick. “I personally believe wherever you get love, you feel good. If you get appreciation, it’s always overwhelming. The same is the case with me,” she said.

“I do miss Pakistan a lot. After all it’s my home. Yesterday I was thinking of coming back to my country on a vacation for at least 10 days,” she said. “No matter where I go, I feel like I am home. I thank God that I am no more living out of a suitcase.”

Currently, the notorious Veena is hosting a T20 World Cup show in New Delhi for India TV. She says she is happy for both countries’ success in the cricketing tournament so far. “It was a day of double treat for me [when both countries won]!” Malik has always boldly flaunted her love for the Pakistani cricket team, and especially Mohammad Asif. In a recent press release she claimed, “Asif is the real man for me and I miss him a lot. Out of all the moments I’ve spent with him, the best were the foot massages. I think he is a better foot massager than a cricketer.” Poor, Asif – as if he hasn’t caused himself enough shame already!

Veena’s upcoming project is Supermodel, a Bollywood film that explores the glamour world. Opposite her is actor Ashmit Patel, who was involved in the “Bigg Boss” scandal with the actor last year.

The actor is also anxiously waiting for her first solo song, “Drama Queen” to release next week. “Live concerts have been planned in places like New Delhi and Mumbai,” she said, thrilled at the idea of her singing debut. “Performing on stage like a rock star makes me super excited!”

“Ever since my childhood, I have imagined myself standing in front of thousands of people and singing. I never dreamt of becoming a Bollywood star. I am happy, and acting is something I enjoy but my ultimate dream is to become a singer,” she added.

Veena insists that the film has an emotional touch apart from glamour and fashion.

Lady Scandal Veena Malik is busy promoting her new big venture after her controversial Ramazan show “Astaghfar”. Her upcoming film Supermodel explores the glamour and fashion world (Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion, anyone?) but she insists that the film also has an emotional touch.

“When it comes to the concept of Supermodel, naturally a lot of glamour, fashion and such things come to your mind. Of course, I would say this is the requirement of the character, but it is a complete entertaining film with all the essential elements,” said Veena.

The actor shot a saucy photo shoot for the movie on Sunday and promises that there is much more than “glamour” in the movie. “It is a fashion and glamour-related film, but you will also see a lot of emotions in it. So whatever clothes I am wearing and the kind of look I am sporting, it is a part of the film and was required for the character,” she added.

We can hardly wait to see what Veena’s next move will be. For those interested in her stints on Indian reality show “Bigg Boss”, Supermodel also stars Veena’s former beau Ashmit Patel who will play opposite her.

From being a largely unknown Lollywood actor to a controversial model in India, Veena Malik is now poised to enter the world of singing.

In a 12-second long teaser sent to The Express Tribune, Veena calls herself the “Drama Queen” and is seen sporting a new look with short hair.

The video will be released on September 3, according to Veena’s twitter account.

In July, Veena revealed her ambitions for singing in an interview to IANS. She said that her “ultimate dream” was to become a singer but she was always suggested to take up acting because of her looks.

Veena had changed her Twitter name to “Drama Queen” and her official Team Veena account’s name to “Team Drama Queen” to promote her upcoming song. Both the accounts have been tweeting posters of Veena in her new look and other related videos.

The starlet shares her experience of hosting a show that she believes addresses problems affecting the common man.

Staying true to her title of Controversy Queen, Veena Malik has struck again by stirring up another commotion – this time with “Astaghfar”, a special Ramazan show hosted by Veena for Hero TV. Through this show, Veena aims to address ‘sinful’ societal issues while repenting the wrongs she has committed and asking for forgiveness.

In a telephonic interview with The Express Tribune, Veena shares her thoughts and feelings about this Ramazan show. When asked about “Astaghfar”, she says, “Firstly, for me, it is social norms and human behaviour in society that is the imperative subject of discussion. How should we behave with other people? What does religion say about how we should act with others? Since I hold a degree in Sociology, this interests me very much.”

Further elaborating on the line of thought she follows in her show, Veena adds, “I have always been approached by channels asking me to do political shows, to share my thoughts on what political parties are up to here in the country. But I believe these issues are not of interest to the common man. He is a frustrated individual, who faces financial instability and other problems on a daily basis. It is his problems and issues that need to be addressed – this is something that is missing on TV and channels must address it.”

Veena also realises that it is indeed the little things in life that matter, as she states, “From dealing with hard core issues, we should now be more involved in looking and solving the simple issues of life that are affecting the common man on the street.”

On the sets of “Astaghfar”, Veena often gets calls from viewers who speak to her in harsh and condescending tones, with some criticising her blatantly as well. Veena says she feels sympathy for the people who criticise her as she believes, “The way a man speaks or talks to others represents what kind of society we live in; his behaviour shows what sort of person he is and gives the impression that he is definitely living in a very frustrated society. We are often told to treat others with respect to beget respect. I definitely feel sympathy for such individuals.”

With 13 episodes on air so far, Veena seems very excited about her new venture. She believes that her show is based on a beautiful concept and also touches upon some imperative family related issues “related to father-daughter and brother-sister relationships and how they should treat each other.”

In conclusion, when asked why she chose to do this show, Veena says, “The answer is simple and very clear – to interact with people and to know their worries.”

Malik rejects perception that entertainment and religion should be kept separate.

Veena Malik, responding to criticism of her Ramazan show ‘Astaghfar’ on Hero TV, has said that entertainers have the right to talk about their religion and has rejected the perception that entertainment and religion should be kept separate. She was speaking during an exclusive interview on Express News with Munizae Jahangir in New Delhi

On being told that entertainers talking about religion was akin to a ‘maulvi’ wanting to be a hero in the entertainment industry, she lashed out at the ‘maulvis’, saying that they do portray themselves as some sort of heroes on television, wearing gaudy clothes and makeup, entertaining viewers.

She added that religion is a very beautiful thing and everyone, no matter anywhere in the world, has the right to learn about their religion.

Flirting with the camera

“No man can look at me the way the camera looks at me because the camera makes me look really pretty. The way I flirt with the camera, I can never flirt with anyone,” said Malik.

Reflecting back upon her career as a once shy girl when she joined the entertainment industry, the bold actress said that the ‘shy girl’ will always be in her and that her first love will always be the camera.

Talking about her struggle in India’s entertainment industry, particularly the film industry, Malik said that the struggle was the same as in Pakistan but she had never shied away from hard work, although she did face opposition from certain quarters here, including the Hindu extremist lobby and Muslim community as well.

“If you talk about India, a lot of people do love me, but the fact is that being a Pakistani does offend the sentiments of a particular Hindu extremist lobby,” narrating an incident that took place while she was shooting for a Kannada film in Bangalore, adding that during the shoot of ‘The Dirty Picture’ remake, a Hindu extremist group protested against her being cast in the movie instead of an Indian.

Malik, however, said that she had also received a lot of love in India, adding that on both sides of the border, there were people who were liberal and welcomed change, while at the same time there were those who equate patriotism with anti-India or anti-Pakistan sentiments.

‘No plans to settle in India’

Answering a question on whether she would settle down like many Pakistani celebrities had in the past, including singer Adnan Sami, or whether did she intend to return back to Pakistan, Malik said that she had never ‘set boundaries’ for herself and would continue to work in Pakistan and India, as long as she was offered beautiful and interesting projects. She had no plans to permanently settle in India.

On her Kannada version of the film ‘The Dirty Picture’, she said that working in a Kannada film was a very different experience for her as she was not familiar with the language, and that she would also be singing in the film on the director’s request, for which she would start recording soon.

When asked to sing a Kannada song, she was reluctant, but instead sang a popular song of Pakistan’s legendary singer Madam Noor Jehan, ‘Mujhse pehli si mohabbat...’

‘Parents cannot be upset for long’

On her estranged ties with her father who was upset with his daughter’s exploits in India, also allegedly disowning her, the confident actress said that as of now he was upset but then parents can never be upset with their child for long.

Speaking about living alone in India despite threats from Hindu extremists and the Muslim community, who had also issued an edict (fatwa) against her in Bhopal, Malik said that she had faced the same challenges in Pakistan too, reiterating that she had critics and lovers alike all over the world.

Although, she misses her family, Malik said that she had been living out of a suitcase since she was 14 years old, and hence didn’t miss being at home, and was instead enjoying her life’s beautiful journey and looked forward to achieving a lot more. She said that everything comes at a cost in life.

On threats from Taliban member Ahmed Masood, the defiant actress said that she had received threats in past but none lately and would most probably spend Eidul Fitr in Pakistan.

'Politicians are the biggest comedians'

Responding to a question, with reference to an interview wherein she had called TV anchors as the biggest comedians, an amused Malik said that she had never said that, instead she had called politicians the aforementioned.

According to Malik, veteran politician Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed was the biggest comedian amongst politicians.

‘Veena ka Vivah’

On talking about her show for an Indian channel, ‘Veena ka Vivah’, for which she received much flak from the local Muslim community with an edict issued against her, Malik said that everyone should be happy now since the show had been cancelled and she was enjoying her single status for now.

She however defended the show’s concept calling it beautiful, saying that every religion encouraged the woman to choose her life partner.

The edict had accused her for making a mockery of the institution of marriage in Islam and that the Muslim community would socially boycott her and the show, so as to avoid the actress from influencing women and girls of the community.

Talking further about the show, Malik said that she had received over 75,000 entries from all over the world and was looking forward to meeting her Mr Right on the show. She quashed criticism that choosing a life partner on a television show were risky, adding that she was a public figure and wanted to share this joy of her life with everyone and that eventually when she does marry, ‘it will become national news anyways’.

On being questioned whether there was someone in her life she wanted to get married to, Malik said not as of now, however during the interview she did mention that she was in a relationship but did not want to divulge much information about it since she did not want to jinx it.

“I always need a lover,” added a shy Malik.

FHM shoot

On talking about her controversial shoot for an Indian edition of an international men’s magazine, FHM, and allegations that she insisted on a revealing shoot and posing semi-nude, Malik said that she had taken legal action against the magazine for allegedly morphing pictures over a semi-nude body and questioned why the magazine had not been able to prove to date the authenticity of the pictures.

She refuted the magazine’s claims that she had approached them, adding that in India, she only worked with people who approached her.

Questioning the magazine’s claims that there was a video of the shoot, she asked why was it not released yet. “Is it being cooked up?”

'Shock Queen'

Addressing allegations on her being labelled as ”Shock Queen” and “Controversy Queen” , Malik said that whatever she was doing as an actress, is no different than what other Indian actresses or her peers across the border were doing, adding that had the FHM incident occurred with another actress, then she would have been considered a ‘victim’ but since this happened with Veena Malik, then it was considered that ‘she must have done it.’

Malik clarified that she had never posed topless or nude in her life. On whether she expected justice from the Indian courts here, she said that one always gets justice when one is right.

Item number

Talking about her item number ‘Channo’ in a Hindi film, she said that it was a beautiful song and concept, questioning what was wrong with the clothes.

“Who will determine whether what is vulgar and entertainment? The same thing another actress does, is entertainment, but if Veena Malik does it, it is ‘something else’?"

She said that people need to end their double standards and that they just liked talking about her.

‘Aphrodisiac endorsement’

Even Malik’s endorsement of an aphrodisiac product for men was not off limits in the interview. Defending her decision to endorse the brand 'Power Prash', she rejected the notion amongst people that she had done this because ‘times were tough’ for her in Bollywood.

She said, “If Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan could sell a pressure cooker, why could not I sell Power Prash?” adding that celebrities endorsed everything from ointments (balm) to utensils.

Malik said that she was not having trouble finding work in India and was on the contrary shooting for five films, adding that shes working both sides of the border and that critics should ‘just chill and relax’.

“I have a bright future ahead of me. I am an actress and I am going to give my 100% in promoting my endorsed products.”

Malik further said that she did not fear her image as a serious actor being affected by this endorsement.

Alleged relationships

Responding to a question about her alleged affair with Indian filmmaker Hemant Madhurkar and the leaked pictures pictures of them both at a party, Malik dismissed the whole affair as a rumor, saying that Madhukar was just a friend and a very talented director, with whom she had shot a 3D film, adding that one develops a personal relationship with people while working on a film and they become a part of one’s social life.

She said it wasn’t her fault if people wanted to give the wrong impression by cropping out other people in the picture, leaving out only her and Madhukar. When asked whether had she seen the pictures, she admitted she had , adding that everyone has their own way of perceiving things, “a dirty mind sees dirty things while a beautiful mind sees beautiful things.”

On her alleged affair with actor Ashmit Patel, whom she met on the Indian reality show Bigg Boss, she refuted the allegation that it was just an act, Veena said that she found it surprising that people actually believed that she would fake her affection for someone on national television.

Malik also raised questions over an interview of Patel’s friend to Mumbai Mirror, wherein he had said that it was a one-sided affair and that Patel actually used to get upset on reading stories about his alleged affair with her, asking whether Patel had said any of this.

She said that she and the Indian actor will always have mutual respect and regard for each other, however they were not together anymore.

‘Love me for who I am’

On talking about working after marriage, Malik said that she was not a piece of furniture, a sofa, which can be replaced any time just because one loses interest in her, terming marriage as a long term friendship and that one who loves her would never stop her [from achieving her dreams and goals in life]. She said that the definition of love had changed a lot over the years and that being protective did not mean that one ruins the life partner’s life and lose trust in the person.

Admitting that she was a flirt, when not in a relationship to someone, she clarified it in the same breathe that she was very loyal when committed.

She refused to stop working after marriage and would never accept such conditions from her future life partner, adding that relationships could not survive on ‘conditions’.

“Today he might object to my work, tomorrow I might lose my hair or beauty!... so the person should love me for who I am.”

On being asked about match-fixing in cricket and former boyfriend cricketer Mohammed Asif’s alleged involvement in it, Malik admitted that she had never witnessed a deal wherein a match was being fixed.

She however said that the house in Lahore where Asif and she lived had a basement, where the cricketer usually met his friends but she was never allowed to meet them.

Answering a question about whether her parents ever objected about her relationship with Asif, Malik said that being an independent adult, was a matter of concern for parents, however she narrated a conversation with her mother wherein she had strongly forbade Malik from marrying Asif.

Malik added that she had no regrets about the failed relationship and that everything happened for a reason.

Return to Pakistan?

On responding to a question asking whether Pakistani society will accept her after her exploits in India, Malik said that she has kept her roots intact and had not ended her relation with Pakistan.

“When you are a celebrity, there is propaganda and controversies related to you which are often exaggerated, but I have never crossed my boundaries. Pakistan is my country and I will go back.”

Malik said that whenever she took on a project or any step, she always remembered that she was a Pakistani [woman] and will have to return back to her country.

She said the image of the Pakistani women was misconstrued, since despite being shunned from voicing their opinion, they were politicians and professionals too, who wore both a burqa and jeans.

Paying homage to her late grandmother, Malik said that she owed her self-belief and confidence to the latter, saying that her grandmother was a liberal, who always supported her.

Actor says she is very religious, no third person can judge how religious she is.

Veena Malik’s Ramazan show “Astaghfaar” was cancelled after the promo received immense criticism from the masses, but the actor finds it sad that people started judging her before even watching the show.

“Even before the show was released, people started saying that Veena Malik is not allowed to do this show. It is very sad,” said Malik in an interview to BBC Urdu. “Neither did people see the show nor did they know what the show is like. It would have made sense if people reacted at the end of the show, but this does not make any sense to me… It was very very strange behavior.”

When asked why the show was called off, Malik said that she did not know the inside details, but she knew that the channel received a lot of “serious threats”.

Describing the show, Malik said, “This is a beautiful concept and I have not done a show like this before. In the holy month of Ramazan, I made an effort to learn something related to religion and I made an effort to sit with people and interact with them as to why this is a blessed month and what good things we should do in this month and what all do we need to learn in life.”

But when a caller asked whether her future will be a religious one or one full of scandals, Malik snapped back saying that people are being judgemental when they say there is a rift between her and her religion. “Religion is a very personal matter for me. I am very religious, but it is something between me and my God. I don’t think a third person can stand in front of me and judge how religious I am or I am not.”

Another caller asked her to move towards religion, to which Malik said that she had been studying Islam since she was ten. “The difference between me and others is that I have read the Holy Quran with translation, which most people do not. I may not be a complete or perfect Muslim, but I constantly try to understand Islam better.”

Malik also hinted that she might join politics as she has done social work and knows people well, but when asked about marriage, Malik was clear that she is “not in the mood”.

“When the time is right, I will get married.”

Actor’s show on Hero TV called off after promo sparks fury online.

The idea of the controversial Veena Malik repenting for her sins on national television did not settle well with the awaam. From internet petitions calling for the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to ban the show, which had been scheduled to air during the holy month, to comments on social media forums, the anger was hot and unrestricted.

The furor and resentment around the show finally made the production team rethink their decision to air it. “Hero TV is for the awaam. If the awaam does not want to see Veena Malik on this Ramazan show, then we will cancel it,” said a member of the team, adding that they respect the wishes of the populace.

A YouTube user by the name Hamza Imran uploaded a video of his reaction to Veena’s Ramazan promo. Cursing heavily, he appeals to viewers:

“Can you imagine Veena Malik, who not so long ago stripped half naked with an ISI tattoo on her? She hasn’t got any right to be entering Pakistan, let alone being on a TV show that has such religion significance,” he says, holding his head, clearly appalled. He also adds that he has uploaded his video to “spread the message” to the show’s producers for its cancellation. “I’m not just going to be Facebooking or liking things online because that’s not going to make a difference. I want people to email Hero TV and send them hate messages and ask them to stop this. She’s a disgrace of a person. How dare she?”

Amidst the hue and cry around this controversial show, a few questions come to light. If Hero TV was “heroic” enough to take such an audacious stance (by inviting the notorious Veena on their sets) in the first place, why didn’t they simply stick to their guns and see it through? Some commentors suggest that it is a publicity ploy to garner attention for a channel that receives none at all. “What depths will the media plunge to next in the ratings game? Is there any hope for an informed, progressive and responsible media?” asks one irked commenter on The Express Tribune website.

A Pemra official told us that he was just as baffled. “What do media owners want?” he asked, requesting anonymity. “Could they not find anyone else? If they want ratings, can’t they get scholars with good reputations instead of fuelling extremism by bringing such controversial figures on TV?” he asked, adding that Veena and other televangelists are “hypocrites”.

The actor will appear on a show in the holy month to seek forgiveness for her sins.

When the promo for Veena Malik’s Ramazan show “Astaghfaar” made the rounds on the internet Monday evening, a large chunk of internet commenters were appalled. “I am Veena Malik. In the entire month of Ramazan, I will seek forgiveness for my sins and yours, with you on Hero TV,” Veena says in her promo, with a slightly quivering lip and tear-streaked cheek.

Before we launch into a discussion on how outrageous it is that Lady Scandal herself will be on our TV screens all 30 days of this holy month, let’s talk about how this show came about and what this Hero TV is that has given Veena this platform to purge her soul of sin. Hero is a new infotainment channel that airs what the awaam demands. The producer of “Astaghfaar” explained to The Express Tribune that after Veena approached the team for a Ramazan show, a poll was conducted online. The poll asked the question: who is the sinner of all sinners? The options were (in this very order): siyasatdaan (politicians), police walay, Veena Malik and gharib awaam (the poor). Believe it or not, Veena Malik was voted the sinner of all sinners by a sweeping majority. If this is really how Pakistanis feel about her, what better than to give them a live show where people can call in and share their stories of atonement?

For those who think Veena is a brave voice in a country where such voices are stifled, “Astaghfaar” may be disappointing. Veena was heroic because she was her own person – she didn’t need to apologise. She wasn’t representing a commercially viable brand of religion and made it clear that she didn’t owe anyone an explanation. But now she wants forgiveness for her sins

But here’s the alternative view. As the idea of religion in Pakistan is fast becoming idealistic and almost elitist, Veena’s Ramazan transmission is going to open some space, pushing boundaries far enough to take away religion from the hands of the selected few. She is not a thief or a murderer. She is a woman who is unapologetic about being herself; why should that give people reason for a public outcry against her doing a religious show? Why should a woman whose topless pictures were aired on television, not be allowed to ask God for forgiveness on that same forum? It’s about time Pakistani audiences are given some space to breath and religious bigots are given a run for their money. If the outlandish Aamir Liaqat can talk about Islam, why not Veena?

In a country where TV ratings mean everything, Hero TV – a channel for the masses – will give us food for thought during a long month of fasting. If their aim is to get eyeballs, then hats off to them for pulling this off.

Actor says the idea of a joint family system is ‘beautiful’.

Pakistani model-actor Veena Malik, thought her dream of finding her prince charming would be finally fulfilled after her reality show “Veena Ka Swayamvar.” Unfortunately, the show was aborted after the channel Imagine decided to close down its operations. Veena was left puzzled.

“When ‘Swayamvar’ happened, my Abu and friends supported me a lot. When I was ready for it (marriage), it didn’t happen. I think my marriage plans are jinxed. It has been cancelled many times,” she earlier told IANS. She added remorsefully, “I don’t think I will ever get married.”

When The Express Tribune asked her what her idea of a perfect marriage and ideal relationship is, she responded by saying, “For me marriage is a beautiful thing. I believe that you live once, you die once and you marry once.”

“From my parents to my two elder siblings who are married, I have only seen love grow. For me, marriage is all about growing old. It’s about tying the knot with your best friend,” she said.

“However, like I said before, my marriage plans have always been jinxed!” she added, clearly unhappy with her luck.

When asked if she is comfortable with the idea of living in a joint family arrangement, Veena said, “The joint family system is a beautiful thing. It’s very exciting. But I have been living on my own since I was 14 years old, so I missed the love of a joint family system. If I marry a guy whose family wants to live with me, I won’t mind people around me. It’s a beautiful idea.”

At the end Veena said that she needs to be pampered. “I don’t take care of myself. When I am in a relationship, I want others to look after me. Even at night, when I need to remove my make-up, someone has to do that for me!” she said, adding that she is spoilt.

When the beauty appeared on the sets, the gathering crowd caused a traffic jam.

Pakistani actor Veena Malik recently caused a traffic jam in Bangalore when she stepped out to shoot her debut Kannada film, Dirty Picture: Silk Sakkath Maga on Friday. When the beauty appeared on the sets, the gathering crowd caused a traffic jam, affecting several of the neighbouring business districts.

Although Malik’s presence was kept secret by film-makers, the masses caught a glimpse of her when she first arrived. Around 20,000 screaming fans started congregating around the area, making it impossible for security personnel to manage the crowd or control the traffic. When the solution got completely out of control, the film’s producer called in the police to handle the fans.

Despite the hoards of people surrounding her, Malik seemed to be in high spirits, enjoying all the attention coming her way. The actor, who first became famous from a stint on the Indian version of “Big Boss”, made her way around the crowd gracefully, waving to all her fans and signing autographs.

“This response is unbelievable. I am sure the movie will be a hit,” she later commented.

The film, which also stars Akshay and Anitha Bhat, is a regional remake of Milan Luthria’s blockbuster Dirty Picture released in 2011. Shooting for Dirty Picture: Silk Sakkath Maga officially began in studios last week.

This was the second time Malik has been mobbed by her fans. Before this, the actor attracted a large crowd on Fiji Beach, Australia, proving that she has a great fan following all over the world.

Her crazy fans

“I think I have been appreciated a lot. A Pakistani guy wanted to kidnap and marry me – but he was a kid back then,” Veena told The Express Tribune. “Another Pakistani fan used to send me flowers every day. There’s a guy on Twitter who calls himself Mr Veena Malik; I consider him a psycho, for he has hacked my Twitter and email account,” she said.

"Sometimes I wish to be a part of this system so I can change things" says Veena.

Veena Malik is ambitious, there is no doubting that. The controversial actor has now hinted at the possibility of joining politics in the future.

Malik spoke to The Express Tribune exclusively after news started to float that her father was joining the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and had wished that she join the party with him.

"Whenever there is something wrong going on in society my blood boils and sometimes I wish to be a part of this system so I can change things," said the actor. She however added that, "At the moment I'm just concentrating on my acting and singing career, and travelling to know this world closely!"

Malik said her father had hoped that her career path would be that of a lawyer or a politician. She went on to say that her father has “great” knowledge of politics and is a “very good speaker and very intelligent man”.

Freedom first

When Malik was asked what issues she would focus on if she joined politics, the actor said “the freedom to live a life the way one wants to be.”

She said that food, clothes and shelter were secondary as most people in the country did not even have the right to think or speak their minds.

“We are forced to live our lives in a certain way, we don't have the right to question things forget the answers!”

Earlier in January, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Mushahidullah Khan had called for actor Veena Malik to be made a member of the Senate in the next elections, since this move would at least ensure senators attend Senate sessions.

Controversy's favourite child, Pakistani actress Veena Malik reveals that her heart craves to croon and that her dream has been to become a singer and not an actor.

"I think, Bollywood is beautiful, but my ultimate dream is not to become a Bollwood star. My ultimate dream is to become a singer. I always wanted to become a singer, but because of my looks I was always suggested to act," Veena told IANS.

"Ever since my childhood, I have imagined myself standing in front of thousands of people and singing. I never dreamt of becoming a Bollywood star. I am happy, and acting is something I enjoy but my ultimate dream is to become a singer," she added.

Currently Veena is busy promoting her first Hindi movie Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai, which will see her in a double role.

The actress shot to fame in India with her stint on reality show Bigg Boss 4 and her romantic escapades with Bollywood actor Ashmit Patel spiced it up.

Talking about the popularity of reality shows on television, Veena said: "People love spice in reality shows. There are certain aspects in a reality show that I also like, like Swayamvar. I think media shows what people want to see."

Veena was roped in for the reality show Veena Ka Swayamvar, but the reality show did not happen because the channel decided to shut down its operations.

Would she be part of any dance or comedy show?

"I personally don't like dance shows. I said no to dance shows, I said no to comedy shows because when it comes to comedy, I would like to only do the films," she said.

Directed by Anand Balraj, Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai releases June 29.

Veena tells us who she wants to act with, and which Bollywood role she could have done better.

Actor Veena Malik’s first Bollywood flick, Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai, hits theatres in India today (Friday). After gaining success with her first item song “Channo” in the film Gali Gali Chor Hai, the road to stardom has just been paved for the actor.

In an exclusive conversation with The Express Tribune, Veena talks about her latest release and how it feels to work with big names in B-town.

“I am excited and happy about the release of my film Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai,” said Veena excitedly. “There will be 700 prints released in India alone!” she exclaimed.

While she is currently filming for her next Bollywood film, The Dirty Picture, in Bangalore, she says she will definitely be watching it on the big screen. “This is my first Bollywood film that will be released worldwide. Let’s see how it goes, pehli pehli baar hai (it’s my first time),” said the 28-year-old with enthusiasm.

In Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai, Veena will be playing a double role – one of a starlet who cons a man to get his newly acquired wealth and the other of a beautiful angel. Earlier, Veena expressed excitement about her double role, “Playing a double role onscreen is new for me. But in my personal life I actually play the role of two girls — one is Zahida Malik (her real name) and the other is Veena Malik,” she said. ““I am sure if I can play a double role in real life, it will be exciting to play a double role in a movie,” she added.

The cast of Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai includes big Bollywood names like Jackie Shroff, Vijay Raaj, Aanand Balraj, Raja Chaudhry and two Pakistani comedians Irfan Malik and Hasan Ali. “I have worked with big names, just look at the cast of Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai – but I am not someone who would stand in someone’s shadow,” said Malik, confident that her acting skills will not be overshadowed when paired with experienced actors.

Veena said that she is grateful to the producers of the movie, Deepak and Urvashi Bali of D Bali movies, for having faith in her and signing her as the lead actor in their first film.

She also confessed her desire to work with actor Ajay Devgn. “I have a dream to work with Ajay Devgn,” she said. “The day I meet him, I am sure Kajol ko problems hongi (I am sure Kajol will have issues with our meeting),” she added cheekily.

But she surprised us most when she told us which Bollywood character she thinks she could have performed better. Instead of naming an item song or a strong female role (like Vidya Balan’s in Kahaani), Veena said, “I think one character I could have done better is Chulbul Panday played by Salman Khan in Dabangg,” she said, “I think I would have done a better job than him (Khan).”

Veena is currently working on the remake of the Bollywood hit, The Dirty Picture, which is a Kannada version of the movie. Other projects in the pipeline include Hindi films Zindagi 50-50, in which she plays the role of a sex worker, and Mumbai 125 km which is a horror/thriller in 3D.

We wish Veena the best of luck!

'My wedding dates have been getting ready ever since I was 14.'

Pakistani model-turned-actress Veena Malik was expected to find her prince charming on “Veena Ka Swayamvar”, but the reality show was aborted after the Imagine channel decided to shut down its operations. Veena says she is not upset as she knows that her marriage plans are doomed.

“You know, my wedding dates have been getting ready ever since I was 14. My dad wanted me to get married since then. My parents tried to get me settled down four times and every time I backed out,” Veena told IANS.

She further added, “But when ‘Swayamvar’ happened, my Abu and friends supported me a lot. When I was ready for it (marriage), it didn’t happen. I think my marriage plans are jinxed. It has been cancelled many times.”

After her stint on reality show “Bigg Boss”, “Veena Ka Swayamvar” would have been her second Indian show. Veena said she was not shocked when she came to know that the show has been cancelled.

“I was not surprised when I heard that the channel had shut down, because it was not new to me,” Veena said.

“Of course, money is an important part. I lost my money, but when my manager called me and told me about it, my only reaction was, ‘Ok’,” said the actor.

“I believe it happens in our lives. I am a very positive person.

Maybe God has planned something better for me,” said Veena who is said to be dating Hemant Madhukar, the director of the film Mumbai 125 kms in which she has been casted.

“If ‘Veena Ka Swayamvar’ would have happened, maybe I would have even got married. When it got cancelled, my dad was very upset. Something is wrong with my wedding. I don’t think I will ever get married,” she said.

Veena says her personal life was chaotic.

To say that Pakistani siren Veena Malik has made it big in Bollywood, would be an understatement. The actor who is being swamped with offers one after the other, says that even though she is a public figure, her personal life and the people in it are not to be discussed with the media. Malik adds that she is in a relationship but she does not want to divulge any details because the last time she did that, her “life was in a mess”, according to a Times Of India report.

Much to her dismay, her infamous love life has been fodder for tabloids for too long. However, this time around Malik says she is not taking any chances with her love life. “My personal life was chaotic and kind of a mess. But now it’s completely settled. There is someone who takes care of me but this time I’d like to keep it a hush-hush thing. I’m the kind of person who can’t live alone. I am such a spoilt brat I need somebody to take care of me all the time. I was single for five to six months for the first time in my life when ‘Swayamvar’ was happening. For me, staying single for such a long time is impossible,” she says.

Malik was supposed to marry, or at least get engaged, on the fourth season of “Swayamvar” but the channel shut down. However, she remains hopeful because, “The makers are in talks and are negotiating with various channels. It may happen.”

Malik is not concerned about the shelving of her TV show as she is extremely excited about her upcoming film which is the Kannada version of Vidya Balan starrer The Dirty Picture. The promo of the film has tried to recreate the magic created by Marilyn Monroe in her movie The Seven Year Itch, in which Monroe tries to stop her dress from billowing in the air. Malik, who is seen wearing a rather gawky blonde wig and a not-so-impressive red dress, will stand ape that oomphy pose.

Pakistani actress Veena Malik, who has been roped in to play the lead role in the Kannada version of The Dirty Picture, is not inspired by actress Vidya Balan's Silk act in the original.

"When it comes to acting, I would not say I am inspired from Vidyaji because I have not seen her film, The Dirty Picture," Veena said at a photo shoot for her yet untitled debut music album.

"I was planning to see it but when I got the Kannada version of the film, I decided against it because I did not want my character to have any outside imprints. Everyone is appreciating Vidyaji and no doubt, she is a wonderful actress," she added.

Veena's Bollywood debut film Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai is ready to release and currently she is shooting for Mumbai 125km and Zindagi 50-50.

Recently, she has been in the news for her intimate pictures with her Mumbai 125 km producer Hemant Madhukar that were splashed in the media.

When asked her about these, Veena said: "That was not from my PR (public relation) team. We were also surprised to see those pictures. I don't know who clicked those pictures. But I would like to say, if going out with someone or having dinner means dating that person, then I think everyone is dating someone or the other."

She also added that she is "working with various people in India" and that she has a "very good working" relationship with them.

Actor feels 'every person has the right to live their life' without interference.

Controversy’s favourite child, actor Veena Malik has raised eyebrows by boldly announcing her support for same-sex marriages. In a statement issued on Friday, Malik said “I openly support the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community and I don’t feel shy about doing it.”

Following the footsteps of starlets Kim Kardashian and Lady Gaga, who recently voiced their support for homosexuality, Malik justified her stance by asking, “If US President Barack Obama and Hollywood beauties can stand up for gay marriage, why can’t every citizen support this cause?”

Malik’s move to Bollywood has made her bolder; one controversial photoshoot and hot item number later, she feels “every person has the right to live their life” without interference.

Anti-gay sentiment is widely prevalent in Pakistan, where the subject is considered taboo and has often sparked outrage. In India, however, the government has legalised gay sex despite conservative elements wanting it banned.

When Malik shared the news of her pro-LGBT stance on micro-blogging site Twitter, the more liberal members on the social media forum applauded her. One person reacted to Malik’s statement by posting “Way to go! LGBT people are loving and caring human beings who deserve happiness, love and acceptance!”, while another wrote: “This is why I love her.” Some claimed that she was the first Pakistani celebrity to openly support gay unions.

The more conservative quarters, however, expressed their indignation by using profanities. “She is taking all the shortcuts to become famous,” read one post.

In the same spirit of candidness, Malik has also reacted to veteran Indian actor Hema Malini’s comment that top heroines should avoid item numbers.

“Heroines should not shy away from them (item songs),” said Malik at the music launch of her debut Hindi film Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai in Mumbai.

“An item song is a huge responsibility,” she added. “Sometimes the whole film depends on an item song.”

Malik has also signed the Telugu version of the Bollywood hit The Dirty Picture and is set to feature in Hindi movies Mumbai 125 km and Zindagi 50-50.

Veena Malik, who is gearing up for the release of her first Bollywood film, says heroines should not shy away from item songs as it is more challenging to do them.

"Not really, things are changing now. Item songs are a big challenge. Sometimes the whole film depends on an item song," Veena told reporters when asked for her reaction to Hema Malini's comment that top heroines should avoid item numbers.

"An item song is a huge responsibility and I would say that heroines should not shy away from them," said Veena at the music launch of her debut Hindi film Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai.

"I am doing five-six female-centric films but at the same time I am doing item numbers. I did Channo, one in Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya and very soon I'll do another," she added.

Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai is Veena's Bollywood debut movie and when asked if it is a perfect launch pad for her, she said: "I am happy that without becoming part of a group and without the support of a man, I am making a place for myself in Bollywood.

"It's just the beginning, my producers are showing faith in me. I think it's a great achievement that a girl is being offered female-centric roles."

Controversial Pakistani actor Veena Malik will be seen grooving to salsa beats for a new ad for aphrodisiac product Stay On and says that the dance form gives her “exhilarating freedom”.

“Dancing is my passion and salsa is a new thing for me. I am quite nervous and excited about this project. Salsa is like good music, it elevates the spirit and it’s an exhilarating freedom,” Malik said in a statement.

The dance has been choreographed by Longinus Fernandes, known for choreographing “Jai Ho” for Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionaire and “Pappu Can’t Dance Saala” for Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Naa, and he is impressed with the way the actor has performed.

“Veena is crazy about dancing. She is a good dancer and has the skill to adapt a dance move and present it beautifully. She is a dancing star,” he said.

Meanwhile, Malik has a host of films in her kitty. She has finished shooting for Mumbai 125 km, Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai and Zindagi 50-50. Currently she is filming Rajani Ki Toh Lag Gayi and soon she will start working on Supermodel with Ashmit Patel.

She has also been signed on for the Kannada version of The Dirty Picture, about which the actor has said, “I am quite excited to be part of the film. I have heard the story and it looks quite interesting.” Adding that, “As the lead heroine, I will get a lot of opportunity to perform. The director has packaged the film very well with glamour, sentiments and all other ingredients.”

Malik will play the female lead of the Kannada version of The Dirty Picture.

Pakistani actor and former “Bigg Boss” contestant Veena Malik has started to work on the Kannada version of The Dirty Picture, saying the film is packed with glamour and sentiments that will allow her to show her talent.

The Kannada version is also titled The Dirty Picture. It is produced by Venkatappa and directed by Trishul. “I am quite excited to be part of the film. I have heard the story and it looks quite interesting,” said Malik who recently attended the promo and photo shoot of the movie.

“As the lead heroine, I will get a lot of opportunity to perform. The director has packaged the film very well with glamour, sentiments and all other ingredients,” says the actor whose latest Bollywood venture is Deepak Bali’s film titled Daal Me Kaala Hai.

Producer Venkatappa’s son Akshay will play the male lead in the movie and the shooting will start soon. Venkatappa said that he will not face any date issues with Malik as all the problems relating to her visa have now been cleared.

Starring Vidya Balan, the Hindi version was an unofficial biopic on southern sex symbol Silk Smitha. It was a runaway success at the box office and won Balan her first National Award.

Ekta Kapoor, who produced The Dirty Picture in Hindi under her banner Balaji Telefilms, is against the same title being used by Venkatappa. Trishuli, however, says his story is different. “I have written a fresh story and it has a lot of native elements that is peculiar to Karnataka. But I thought the title, The Dirty Picture, will suit the story very well.

Malik's PR manager says Indians certainly don't know how to show hospitality to their guests.

“I think the Indian government should ban [Indian actor] Dolly Bindra,” said Sohail Rashid, the Public Relations manager of Pakistani actor-model Veena Malik, as he came to the actor’s rescue after Bindra unleashed a set of allegations against Malik on Saturday.

Bindra, during her press conference in Lahore, had not only accused Malik of being involved in “immoral activities” in India but had also alleged that she was a part of an agenda by either India or Pakistan, without naming the country.

“I have a question for Dolly Bindra: Is this the Indian culture and is she trying to show that all Indian women are like Dolly Bindra? What kind of cheap and vulgar language is she using against Veena Malik?” questioned Rashid, in a telephonic conversation. “I think the Indian government should ban Dolly Bindra for using such cheap and vulgar language. She is only giving a bad name to her country.”

Rashid further said that if Bindra doesn’t stop handing out such public statements, the Pakistani actor would be forced to file a case against her. “We have other means through which we can handle this case.”

The PR manager also blamed the entire Indian community over Bindra’s statements saying that India has always been hostile to its guests. “What kind of people are they? The Indians certainly don’t know how to show hospitality to their guests. Whereas, we in Pakistan, have always been respectful of our guests who have come from abroad.”

Citing examples, he said, “When Veena Malik went to India, Bal Thackeray [head of the Hindu extremist party, Shiv Sena] stood up against her and there were riots in Mumbai against her. Now Dolly Bindra comes to Pakistan and accuses Veena Malik of ‘immoral activities’ which is what I believe character assassination of Malik.

“These are the mad people of India, who are giving India – considered to be a modern state – a bad name at an international level. They are making a laughing stock of their own country, here at home and abroad.”

On the claim that Malik is being supported by the government of either India or Pakistan, Rashid said, “If she [Bindra] can make tall claims, she should even cite the name of the respective government. She should name the country openly.”

Rashid finally said that it looks as if comedy-in-action is taking place that has perplexed the entire nation for now.

Indian actor Dolly Bindra said that Veena Malik was not her friend on Saturday, accusing the Pakistani actor-model of “immoral activities” and expressed her desire of slapping Malik with her shoes.

Speaking to the media in Lahore during her visit, Bindra said that Malik was in India due to her immoral acts and not because she was receiving any monetary compensation. She added that Malik loved to involve herself in various scandals every now and then.

"She [Veena Malik] is a stain on Pakistan, a stain on India, and a stain on women," said an enraged Bindra.

The Indian actor went on further to say that Malik had wooed cricketer Muhammad Asif and when Asif got jailed, Malik usurped all his money.

Malik can even do a photoshoot for Playboy magazine for the sake of money, Bindra alleged. Playboy is a popular American men's magazine started by Hugh Hefner in Chicago in 1953.

Malik and Bindra had been involved in verbal brawls during the reality TV show Big Boss 4 in which both the actors had participated last year. They were frequently caught verbally sparring on camera.

Actor discusses her upcoming projects and ex-flame Mohammad Asif’s release from jail.

Sultry siren Veena Malik, who is in the exotic Fiji Islands these days for work, shares details on her life. The actor talks about her days in one of the most beautiful islands in the world, the shooting experience of Supermodel and how she wishes the best for Mohammad Asif, who got released from London jail on May 3.

On people of Fiji

“It’s the first time I’m here and the experience is great. People of Fiji are warm, nice and down-to-earth. I even found this same personality trait in the Attorney General of Fiji, whom I recently met,” said Veena Malik in a telephonic interview to The Express Tribune.

Work comes first

Malik disclosed that she plans to stay in Fiji for another week to shoot the remaining scenes of the film. “Most of the shoot has been done but we are here till May 10 and after that, the team will be leaving for Mumbai. The director [Navin] has a unique way of doing stuff and his technical team is amazing.” About working with her ex-flame Ashmit Patel again, she says, “He is like any other colleague for me. It’s going well.”

Back to the land of spices

Malik says that she has to fly back to India as soon as possible because her projects: Tamil remake of The Dirty Picture and Bollywood comedy-thriller Rajni ki Lag Gai are slated to begin shooting in the month of May. Apart from her reel ventures, the actor is also gearing up for the first look of Mumbai 125km, a promotional shoot of Daal Mein Kuch Kala Hai and her cameo appearance for a song in Zindagi 50/50.

Tamil treats

Her debut in the Tamil film industry, The Dirty Picture, is a remake of Ekta Kapoor’s movie of the same name and Malik will play the role played by actor Vidya Balan in the Hindi version. Malik, who is ecstatic to be offered this role says, “I always wanted to work in a Tamil film. I believe Tamil films are very strong as far as the script goes and technical work is concerned. I hate doing same old boy meets girl movies and I won’t be accepting any roles like these anymore.”

Her main concern, however, is that her role requires her to gain a few pounds but she is not really fond of eating heavy meals. “I have to put on weight for the film and I am not a foodie at all. I have never had three complete meals in my life but now I will have to.”

When inquired if she’d have problem delivering dialogues in Tamil, Malik stated, “Initially, the plan is to have a workshop for 10 days and language is always a challenging skill for an actor but I will give it my very best shot. It will be challenging for me, but interesting too.”

Next singing sensation?

The actor plans on launching her singing career by releasing two solos this summer. “My music career will certainly get a boost in the coming months. I plan to release two solo songs during the late summer season in Pakistan, the UK, India and UAE.”

It’s good to be free

Malik, who says her motto is ‘to live and let live’ says that she wishes her ex-flame Mohammad Asif the very best in life and is happy that he has been released from jail. “I hope he has learnt his lessons in life. Firstly, never betray a girl and play with her feelings and secondly, not to fix matches and play with the entire nation’s emotions. I’m sure he punished himself more than anyone else could. I have good wishes for him and his future, but I wonder what will happen to his sports career.”

Apparently Veena Malik’s fan following is not just limited to Pakistan and India. During her shoot in Fiji, the Pakistani actor was visited by the country’s Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed Khiayum.

Terming it a profound moment, Veena said meeting Fiji’s Attorney General was a great experience. “It was good knowing about Fiji from him [Khiayum],” she said.

2012 for Veena

Veena has her hands full of big projects and she feels that she is finally getting rewarded for her efforts.

Earlier in an interview for The Express Tribune, Veena had said that “from walking the ramp during Jaipur Fashion Week to shooting for my second reality show ‘Swayamvar’ which will be aired next month, life is as adventurous as a rollercoaster ride these days. Pakistani actor Veena Malik will be playing the role of a fashion supermodel, based somewhat on the life story of fashion superstar Naomi Campbell in Navin Batra’s new film “Supermodel,” the Times of India (TOI) reported on Thursday.

According to Director Batra, Veena is perfect for the role as she has been through many phases in her career and had been part of many controversies.

“Professionally also she is a successful model and actress and is the apt choice for the film,” Batra was quoted as in the TOI report.

The TOI report further stated that “Campbell is a British Model who is compared to Veena Malik, as both are established as the most recognisable and in-demand by the fashion world.”

According to the report, Veena will be paired opposite Indian actor Ashmit Patel.

Pakistani queen of controversy Veena Malik will start shooting for the film on May 12.

After Bollywood actor Vidya Balan, it’s now Veena Malik’s turn to get dirty. The Pakistani actor has signed the South remake of the blockbuster hit, The Dirty Picture, as the female lead, reports Hindustan Times.

“I don’t mind being titled as South’s Vidya Balan,” said Malik, who is currently shooting for the film, Supermodel, with actor Ashmit Patel in Fiji and Australia. Producer Venkatappa has signed on Malik to essay the role of Silk Smitha in his film titled Dirty Picture: Silk Sakkath Maga. To be directed by Trishul and starring Venkatappa’s son Akshay in the lead, the film aims to be a more realistic take on the life of the late actor, claims Times of India.

When asked if the producer has procured the remake rights from Ekta Kapoor, he said, “There’s no question of acquiring any rights. When The Dirty Picture was made, the makers claimed that the film was not about Silk Smitha, but we all know it is. Ekta did not get the rights to make a film on Silk from the late actor’s family. So why should I pay her to make a film on Silk, when we can have a better take on the subject. I want to make a better film than The Dirty Picture,” says Venkatappa.

The film, he adds, will be high on glamour and the producer claims to have approached Tamil actors Nikitha Thukral, Charmme and Pooja Gandhi for the role. “But they all refused fearing that the film would be too bold,” he says. That is when Malik was approached. “When we spoke to her, even before discussing her remuneration, Veena asked for the script. After reading it, she claimed that she was moved by the climax and immediately agreed to do the film,” says the producer.

Meanwhile, Malik admitted that she was so moved by the strong script that she couldn’t say no. “I fell in love with the role. It is a female-centric film and a powerful role to make a debut in South Indian Cinema,” said Malik, adding that her upcoming Bollywood films — Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai, Zindagi 50-50 and Mumbai 125 km — are all female-centric movies.

If a guy has characteristics like Amitabh Bachchan, she will marry him, says Veena Malik, who will hunt for her ideal man on reality show Veena ka Vivaah.

"Not exactly like Big B but if the boy has certain characteristics like him, like his beautiful voice and a personality like him, I think I can compromise on other things," said the actress on the sets of TV show Movers and Shakers.

Known as controversy's favourite child, Veena knows how to handle people.

"I think it's me. Outside factors don't affect me and I am responsible for all my happiness and pain. Nothing that happens around me affects me. If today you appreciate me then also my reaction would be the same as it will be when you criticise me," said Veena.

The actress, who became known here after her stint on reality show Bigg Boss 4, raised a storm when she allegedly posed nude for a men's magazine cover. Veena denied shooting in the buff.

Right now Veena has a host of films in her kitty.

She has finished shooting for Mumbai 125 km, Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai and Zindagi 50-50. She is shooting for Rajani Ki Toh Lag Gayi and will soon start shooting for Supermodel with Ashmit Patel.

The actor talks about her budding music and film career.

The year has just begun and Pakistan’s very own controversy queen, also known as the “Channo” girl now, Veena Malik has already added a myriad feathers to her cap. India has turned out to be the land of opportunities for Malik, who has received tremendous amount of publicity — both good and bad — since she started her career in India with reality show “Bigg Boss” season 4 in 2010.

After two years of persistent hard work, Malik now has her hands full of big projects and she feels that she is finally getting rewarded for her efforts. “From walking the ramp during Jaipur Fashion Week to shooting for my second reality show ‘Swayamvar’ which will be aired next month, life is as adventurous as a rollercoaster ride these days. I’m overwhelmed by the number of projects I’m getting here,” says Malik.

Strutting her stuff

The actor, who represented fashion brand Libas at the Jaipur Fashion Week, states, “I have always loved the ramp. I received an overwhelming response from the crowd at fashion week. As I walked down the ramp, people started screaming my name. I just loved walking the ramp for designer Riyaz Gangji.”

A music maestro?

Malik adds that just because she is doing fashion shows and television series doesn’t mean she is not giving time to her singing career which was launched with her song “Channo” from the film Gali Gali Chor Hai. “After the success of ‘Channo’ I have become more confident about my singing abilities. I will be singing more and will be releasing more songs. I do not have any plans to release an album for now, but I have already recorded three tracks, while five more are in the pipeline.”

Putting the gift of gab to good use

The multifaceted diva, who also tried her luck at cricket commentary during the Asia Cup 2012 in Bangladesh, says, “Asia Cup disappointed me to a great extent. I had thought India versus Pakistan would be a happening match but sadly we lost. Then again, I was looking forward to India and Pakistan playing against each other in the finals but that too did not happen. So yes, I was extremely upset the way Asia Cup turned out.”

The Bollywood saga never ends

The actor says that she is also unhappy that her upcoming film Mumbai 125 Kilometer’s shooting has come to an end. “Working with Hemant Madhukar was an amazing experience. I think this film gave me a chance to grow as an actor. We had several thrilling moments during the shoot which is why it is going to be one of my most memorable projects. Many scenes of Mumbai 125 Kilometer were shot in the dark and we even shot at strange and exciting locations like the jungle and the graveyard.”

Where the wrapping up of one venture has left her sad and nostalgic, Malik is also excited to start shooting for Supermodel in June. “I am impatiently waiting for the shooting to begin.” Apart from the Indian projects, Malik also has some British projects lined up, details of which she said, “it’s too early to disclose”.

Coming back to Pakistan

Even though she is at the zenith of her career, Malik says she still misses home and wants to visit her family in Pakistan. “I really miss Pakistan and I’m dying to be with my family but it seems a little impossible this year as a lot of projects are lined up one after the other.”

In the west, South Asians take part in Christmas celebrations while in India many Hindus take part in Eid celebrations

This is with reference to a report on your website titled “Veena Malik’s Holi moment”, which has riled up a lot of people (it seems) on the Pakistan side of the border.

I would like to ask all those huffing and puffing, what is wrong with what Veena Malik is doing. She is in India and she merely happened to have taken part in Holi celebrations — so what is so wrong with that? In the west, people from South Asia take part in Christmas celebrations while in India many Hindus take part in Eid celebrations.

This is a good thing because it shows respect for other people’s faith and beliefs. Veena Malik is a much better human being than the Sindh MPA who slapped another woman because she (Ms Malik) has not done any harm to anyone. More than being religious, Holi is a festival that celebrates a time of harvest. For that matter, a version of Holi, which is known as ‘basant’ is celebrated in Pakistani Punjab as well.

The actor dismisses rumours that she is willing to shed her clothes for Zindagi 50:50.

Lollywood actor Veena Malik, who shot to fame with reality show “Bigg Boss”, refutes rumours that she is going nude for Rajeev Ruia’s Zindagi 50:50, reports Times of India.

Earlier, reports suggested that Veena, Pakistan’s controversy queen, may be taking her being-in-the-buff image a step further in Zindagi 50:50 by going nude for some scenes in the film. However, when approached, Veena dismissed the speculation, saying, “I’m not stripping for any film. I have never gone nude nor does the film have any such scenes. There are a few bold scenes, but they are aesthetically shot.”

The actor, who is playing a sex worker in the film, further adds, “When Rajeev approached me with the role, he wasn’t very confident about whether I would be able to pull it off. I prefer playing a bad girl rather than a cute, bubbly one. My ideal role has to be negative, strong and performance-driven,” reports Hindustan Times.

Veena recently grabbed headlines for copying Angelina Jolie’s now famous Oscar pose on the runway. But she denies doing it deliberately, “Nothing was actually planned. When I wore the gown, my legs were sticking out and that was the only way I could have posed. If you see the picture, I have no fancy hairdo either.”

Meanwhile, the actor, who was in the eye of the storm when she posed for a magazine with an ISI tattoo on her arm, retorts; “When I spoke about Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Asif, they called me a cricket bookie; now they are calling me an ISI agent. I am not a spy, I am an actor,” Times of India quoted Veena as saying.

Veena is all set to do an item number in Zindagi 50:50 along with Riya Sen, who was dating Veena’s ex-beau, Ashmit Patel.

After making waves on Indian reality TV show Bigg Boss, Veena Malik and Ashmit Patel are set to star together on the silver screen now.

The actor, who recently celebrated her 25th birthday, will star alongside Ashmit in the upcoming movie Super Model.

Despite rumors of a relationship and their onscreen intimacy on the reality TV show, Veena had earlier said that Ashmit was “her buddy” and that there was nothing beyond friendship between the two of them.

“Veena's life as a celebrity has also gone through many phases and many controversies surrounding her and professionally also she is a successful model and actress, and is the apt choice for the film,” says the director Navin Batra.

The film will be shot in Fiji and Australia.

The actor has been at the centre of a number of controversies in both India and Pakistan. The latest controversy erupted after a court order to look into a complaint that Veena was spying for Pakistan.

Delhi police investigated the matter and reported that Veena had denied the allegations. The original complainant had said that Veena’s tattoo in a risque photo shoot for FHM magazine indicated that she was spying for the intelligence agency.

Veena is currently focusing on the release of her Bollywood films and a reality TV show.
