PESHAWAR:

Ever since the Peshawar High Court vacated the stay order against dispute resolution councils (DRC) in September 2015, the arbitration bodies have settled 413 petty disputes in the province. They referred 30 cases to other forums so relevant legal action could be taken.

IGP Nasir Khan Durrani established DRCs in Peshawar in 2014 to change “the thana culture” and ensure prompt settlement of petty disputes amongst the general public,” a handout issued on Friday stated. DRCs were then formed across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

“A large number of people are approaching these councils, owing to its efficiency in handling disputes,” it further stated. In October, the councils received 493 cases throughout the province, in which 413 cases were resolved and 30 were referred to other legal resources.
