FAISALABAD: The Anti-Adulteration Divisional Task Force will launch an operation against the sale of adulterated and substandard milk and dairy products in the division. The team will also crackdown on shops selling paan carrying substances injurious to health.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the divisional task force held on Thursday at the conference room of the commissioner’s office. MPA Haji Khalid Saeed chaired the meeting.

Divisional Commissioner Capt (r) Nasim Nawaz, RPO Ehsan Tufail, Faisalabad DCO Noorul Amin Mengal, Jhang DCO Nadir Chatha, Toba Tek Singh DCO Amir Ejaz Akbar and Chiniot DCO Shoukat Ali Khichi, ACG Mehr Shafqatullah, Additional Coordination Commissioner Khadim Jilani and officers of the Health Department attended the meeting.

They decided to launch a special campaign against adulteration of dairy products.

Divisional task force teams would set up pickets at the entrance of all districts and would test the quality of milk being brought into the district. Strict legal action would be taken against those selling adulterated milk.

MPA Saeed raised the issue of various shops selling paan carrying harmful substances. He urged the participants to launch a directed campaign against such paan shops.

Saeed said the task force had been authorised to crackdown on harmful and adulterated food without discrimination. He said this was in accordance with the chief minister’s vision to ensure provision of good quality food for the masses.

“We also must look to launch large-scale awareness campaign to inform the general public about the dangers of consuming adulterated food and expose the adulteration mafia.”

Divisional Commissioner Capt (r) Nasim Nawaz directed relevant officers to carry out a special operation against vendors selling substandard milk. “We can put an end to this practice if we work together without delay.” He said those involved in such practices were enemies of humanity and would not be spared.

RPO Ehsan Tufail said the police would extend full support to raiding teams and would help expedite the process of taking legal action against suspects.

During the meeting, the DCOs shared their reports on inspections of markets, shops, hotels and other food outlets.

They said they had inspected a large number of food outlets, factories manufacturing spurious food items, and restaurants selling them had been sealed and fined heavily over the past few months.

DCO Noorul Amin Mengal said a district food quality control board had also been set up in Faisalabad to coordinate the efforts of various departments. He said the district government had also announced prize money for information on factories and food outlets selling adulterated food.
