KARACHI: The police arrested on Thursday a school teacher for allegedly harassing female students and blackmailing them in an attempt to seek sexual favours.

The suspect, identified as Pervaiz Ahmed, was taken into custody from Future Foundation School located in the city's Scheme 33 area.

According to investigation officer Abdul Waheed Mangi, a complaint was lodged by the parents of a student who was allegedly abused by the accused. Ahmed was accused of filming female students but no action was taken by the school administration

On Thursday morning, parents protested outside Future Foundation School on University Road and shouted slogans against the management, resulting in the principal expelling their children from the school and refuting all the allegations.

Later, an FIR was lodged against the accused and school principal Farah Naz Rashid at the Mobina Town police station, which resulted in Ahmed's arrest.

School teacher transferred for sexually harassing two students

Talking to The Express Tribune, the complainant, Mirza Arshad Mehmood, the father of ninth-grade victim, alleged that, "The teacher used to blackmail the female students for obscene purposes."

He added that, 10 days ago, the students complained to their class teacher about the accused but no action was taken. "Yesterday, I along with other parents went to the school but we were not allowed to meet the principal and were forcefully thrown out," he claimed.

"My younger son, who is also in the same school, saw the teacher showing videos of the girls to one of his friends outside school," said Mehmood. "When my son [approached] the teacher, he physically abused him and threatened him [of dire consequences] if he complained to his parents," Mehmood added.

Students condemn harassment of their teacher

Mangi said that they visited school to interrogate the principal but no one was there, adding that they will go back later in order to continue with the investigation. The accused denied the allegations against him.

The parents demanded that action be taken against the school and its officials.
