Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Azhar ton takes SNGPL to 307 on day two

ODI skipper scores 142 to give domestic side a 188-run first innings lead

KARACHI: A century by Pakistan one-day skipper Azhar Ali helped SNGPL post 307 in their first innings against Port Qasim on the second day of the fifth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Tuesday.

SNGPL resumed their innings on 95-5, replying to Port Qasim’s first innings total of 119, and managed to reach 307 in 94.2 overs as Azhar struck 15 boundaries to his 271-ball 142-run knock, while Azizullah and Bilawal Bhatti chipped in with 32 and 25 runs respectively as Port Qasim’s Zohaib Shera ran riot to claim six wickets.

At the end of play, Port Qasim were on 25-4 in their second innings, trailing SNGPL by 163 runs.

In the match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, a 237-run unbeaten partnership between Sami Aslam (121) and Usman Sallahuddin (111) enabled hosts Lahore Whites to reach 267-3 in their first innings. The hosts trail Fata by 47 runs.

Meanwhile at the National Ground in Islamabad, HBL’s strong bowling attack restricted KRL on 99 in their first innings as Test pacer Umar Gul took four wickets, while Abdul Rehman and Ammad Butt claimed three and two scalps respectively. At the end of play, HBL were batting on 20-3 with a 199-run lead as KRL’s Muhammad Abbas registered figures of 2-10.

At the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot, Azhar Attari’s six-wicket haul helped Wapda restrict NBP on 201 along with Adnan Raees and Waqas Maqsood, who took two wickets each. Wapda were only two balls into their second innings when play was called off.

Meanwhile, another six-wicket haul, this time by Babar Khan at the Diamond Ground in Islamabad, ensured that Hyderabad restrict Islamabad on 211 in their first innings. Babar claimed six while Sajjad Hussain took two wickets. Hyderabad were on 28-2, leading the hosts by 96 runs with Azeem Ghumman (18) on the crease at stumps.

In other matches, Karachi Whites posted 209 runs in reply to hosts Rawalpindi’s first innings total of 172, with the hosts batting on 117-4 — a lead of 80 runs — at stumps at the Pindi Stadium, while at the Marghazar Ground in Islamabad, SSGC were on 87-4, trailing UBL by 427 runs and Peshawar were on 172-4, trailing Lahore Whites by 95 runs at the LCCA Ground.
