NOWSHERA: Police foiled a terrorism bid by defusing four kilogrammes of explosives in Nowshera on Tuesday. Later in the day, six people were wounded when a qingqi caught fire in the same locality.

A police official told The Express Tribune unidentified militants planted explosives inside a pressure cooker and placed it outside Zamzama School on GT Road.

“Militants were trying to target the school,” he added.

According to the official, a passing-out parade ceremony was under way in the locality and a large number of administrative officials and military personnel were attending the event.

“Soon after the explosives were discovered, police cordoned off the area,” he said. “Bomb disposal unit personnel managed to defuse them.”

The road remained blocked for an hour, disrupting the flow of traffic from Peshawar to Islamabad. A search operation was conducted in Nowshera to stave off any untoward situation.
