PPP chairman says party victory in Nov 19 LG polls appears certain

"The people of Sindh love the Bhuttos and only the Bhuttos are their saviours," he said during his visit to Thatta and Sujawal – two of the few hotly contested districts in Sindh – for the upcoming local government (LG) polls’ campaigning.



Bilawal’s maiden rally, which travelled through over 50km for six hours in the two districts, attracted a warm welcome by tens of thousands of people who thronged the roads to get a glimpse of the young leader.

"The people of Thatta and Sujawal have attested their support for Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. The victory in the November 19 local government elections appears certain now," Bilawal remarked while speaking briefly to the supporters at a square in Jati town."The people have proved that Thatta is still a strong fort of the PPP."

He made it clear that the party would make no compromise on democracy. "It's a party of the martyrs who sacrifice their lives to restore democracy in the country."



The rally started from Sujawal where Bilawal arrived in a helicopter from Karachi at around 11am. The caravan passed through several rural towns and finally culminated at 5:30pm in Thatta's Chailya area from where the PPP leader headed to Karachi through Hyderabad.

At some points the PPP chairman stepped out of his vehicle, shook hands people. Sindh Assembly’s Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza and provincial minister Nisar Khuhro and Syed Nasir Shah, among others, accompanied him in a caravan of hundreds of vehicles.

"The rally has reminded us of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto's visit to Thatta around three decades ago," recalled an elderly PPP loyalist Naimat Jokhio, who lined up in Thatta to greet the young leader. Jokhio said that he also attended the Benazir Bhutto's Thatta visit in the 1980s. "I find the same zeal in people welcoming Bilawal."
