KARACHI: Muhammad Nawaz and Ziaul Haq’s impressive bowling attack guided NBP to an innings and 23-run win over Karachi Whites in the third round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at the National Stadium of Karachi on Thursday.

The hosts had resumed their second innings on 96-4, trailing NBP by 142 runs, and could only manage 119 on the board as Nawaz and Zia took three wickets apiece, while Muhammad Asghar claimed two scalps. Saad Ali (62) was the top-scorer for Karachi Whites.

After three rounds, NBP lead Pool B with 23 points, following two wins and a draw and Zia hopes that his side can maintain their form in the remainder of the tournament.

“We are currently leading our pool but still have a long way to go,” Zia told The Express Tribune. “If we can keep this performance throughout the tournament, we have a serious chance of winning.”

In the match at the Niaz Stadium, Imran Khalid’s five-wicket haul guided SNGPL to a 153-run win over Hyderabad as the hosts failed to meet the target of 364 runs.

Hyderabad bundled out for 210 runs following Khalid’s devastating attack, while Asad Ali, Azizullah and Bilawal Bhatti took one wicket each. Captain Azeem Ghumman (51) and Rizwan Ahmed (44) were the highest scorers for Hyderabad.

At the LCCA Ground in Lahore, the match between Lahore Whites and Wapda ended in a draw as the visitors were batting on 139-4 at stumps.

Meanwhile, rain forced three matches to end in draws.

At the Diamond Ground, only 17 overs were possible on the final day before rain interrupted play with Port Qasim batting on 114-2 in their first innings against Islamabad.

At the Pindi Stadium, only 9.4 overs were possible before the match was stopped, with Rawalpindi batting on 34-1 in the second innings against HBL. And at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar, no play was possible on the final day between Peshawar and SSGC.
