Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of 1,223 megawatt LNG-based power plant, which will start electricity generation in 2017.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of the project in Baloki area of Punjab, the premier said his government was also working on projects to generate electricity from water.
The Diamer-Bhasha Dam, when completed, will facilitate the farmers with free of charge water and electricity, he added.
Power crisis to end after 2018: Nawaz
Diamer-Bhasha, he said, will prove to be the third largest dam of the country.
Nawaz said the projects were being completed with transparency and honesty, adding Rs110 billion were saved through austerity in at least three projects.
Had the development projects been earlier implemented with transparency, country's circumstances would have been different, added the premier.

PM Nawaz also highlighted international organisations were acknowledging development projects in Pakistan.
In a veiled jibe at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, he said "their politics of sit-ins not only damaged the country, it also caused delay in the uplift projects."
