DI KHAN: At least 10 people, including an Afghan national, were arrested during a series of search operations conducted on the outskirts of DI Khan on Wednesday.

Insiders familiar with the matter told The Express Tribune the crackdowns were conducted in Zafarabad Colony, Burki Town and Lachra against tenants whose details were not provided to the relevant police stations. An official of Dera Town police station told The Express Tribune, police personnel, led by Daraban SHO Muhammad Adnan, conducted a house-to-house search.



“They managed to arrest 10 people and registered FIRs against them,” he said. “Among them was an Afghan national who did not possess valid identity documents.” According to the official, a pistol, gun and rifle were recovered during these operations. Police have urged tenants and property owners to provide complete details of tenants to the relevant police stations before renting or selling their properties.

Once upon a crime

Around 24 search and strike operations were carried out in the district, stated a monthly police report released by the DI Khan police. “At least 87 suspects were arrested in October,” read the document. “They were involved in murder, kidnapping and others crimes. Seven Kalashnikovs, four rifles, four guns, 14 pistols, 463 bullets, two knives, 10 kilogrammes and 25 grammes of hashish were seized from them.”

As per the report, 1,544 educational institutions – including 201 religious seminaries – 2,555 houses, and 383 hotels were checked during this period. “In October, 102 suspects were arrested during snap-checks at various check posts across the district,” stated the report. “Five hand grenades, a 30-meter prima cord, 91 detonators, 1 Kalashnikov, two rifles, seven guns, 19 pistols and 422 bullets were seized from them.” During this period, 10 cases were registered against the misuse of loudspeakers. “Traffic police has issued 5,216 challans and Rs1,764,600 have been collected in fines and added to the national exchequer,” the report added.

Recurring threat

Speaking to the media, DI Khan DPO Sadaq Hussain Baloch said terrorism and sectarian violence continues to run rife in the district. “However, police officials will continue to carry out operations and public should cooperate with them,” he added.
