FAISALABAD: Former mayor Chaudhry Sher Ali has announced a public meeting at Dhobi Ghat on October 29, to announce support for candidates for the local government elections he has awarded tickets under the Mayor Group banner.

This was announced at a reception hosted by Saqib Warraich on Sunday night. The event was attended by State Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali, MPA Mian Tahir Jameel, former MPA Khawaja Islam, Syed Zeeshan Elahi, and PML-N Punjab Youth Wing general secretary Kashif Nawaz Randhawa.

Sher Ali said the meeting on October 29 would change the election scene in Faisalabad and would be instrumental in ensuring the victory of candidates fielded by his group (Mayor Group). “We are expecting a mammoth gathering at the public meeting…it will shift the balance in my group’s favour.” He said various committees had been constituted to make the meeting a success. They have been given targets to gather as many people as they can.

He said that it had taken hectic efforts to snatch Faisalabad City from the Pakistan People’s Party and convert it into a bastion of the PML-N. “Unfortunately, there are some new entrants that have weakened the party and damaged its popularity …I am trying to save the party by fielding my own candidates.”

Sher Ali said, “We believe in the welfare of the masses…it is with their support that we will prove our mettle on polling day.”
