CTO says a traffic management plan will be prepared for roads along the route.

LAHORE: CTO Tayyab Hafeez Cheema said on Thursday that the government had decided to deploy another 300 traffic police officials presently posted province-wide along the route of the Orange Line Metro Train project to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic.

Cheema made the remarks at a meeting chaired by Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sumbal on traffic management and citizens’ safety vis-à-vis the project. The CTO said two SPs, 12 DSPs and the requisite number of wardens would be tasked with ensuring the smooth flow of traffic along the project’s route.

Sumbal said the smooth flow of traffic along the project’s route would be ensured by formulating an effective traffic management plan. He said the TEPA would establish two camp offices. Sumbal said two control rooms equipped with CCTV cameras will be established along the project’s route to monitor developments and rescue activities.

The commissioner said the demands made by traffic police in this regard were being fulfilled. He said Rescue-1122 ambulances would remain on standby along the project’s route. The commissioner called for the provision of reflective jackets to labourers and traffic police personnel deployed there at night. Sumbal directed officials to prioritise the identification of points where the flow of traffic was heavy and chowks were not wide enough along the route of the project. Sumbal also instructed officials to ensure the provision of safety gear to citizens and labourers. He also gave directions regarding a public awareness drive on traffic management.
