Three militants killed, two held in Balochistan

Security forces carried out joint operation in Quetta and Sui areas

QUETTA: At least three people suspected of links with a banned organisation were killed in a shootout in the Kanak area of Mastung district, Balochistan, on Tuesday.

According to police spokesperson Muhammad Javed, police and intelligence agencies carried out a joint search operation in Killi Kudao, Kanak area of Mstung district. "Police have recovered arms which were in the militants’ possession," he added.

The spokesperson, however, added that they were yet to identify the bodies and ascertain which organisation the militants belonged to.

Separately, at least two suspected militants were arrested during a search operation in Quetta and Sui areas on Tuesday.

According to the Frontier Constabulary spokesperson, paramilitary forces and other law enforcement agencies conducted an operation in the eastern bypass area of Quetta, where they made the arrest.

The security forces on a tip-off apprehended an alleged militant from the Sui area of Dera Bugti district, and shifted him to an undisclosed location for investigation.

On September 15, eight militants belonging to banned outfits were arrested during a raid in Gwadar. “The suspects were involved in terrorist activities, including an attack on Jiwani airport near Balochistan’s Gwadar district,” a FC spokesperson had told The Express Tribune.
