Focus on education: Enhanced ties with South Korea stressed

Ambassador Dr Song Jong-hwan congratulates Pakistani scholars who had completed their studies at Korean universities

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairperson Prof Mukhtar Ahmed on Monday stressed the need for enhancing educational collaboration with South Korea, said a press release.


Ahmed was speaking at an event commemorating educational, research and sports linkages between Pakistan and South Korea at a ceremony in connection with the latter’s Independence Day celebrations organised at the HEC Secretariat.

South Korean Ambassador Dr Song Jong-hwan, while speaking at the gathering, congratulated the Pakistani scholars who had completed their studies at various Korean universities under the HEC’s MS and PhD programmes.

He said South Korea supported the promotion of education, adding that the same was the main reason behind the country’s progress.

Ahmed said the 446 scholars that went to study in South Korea were an asset for both countries.

He added that the HEC would start exchange programmes not just for students but also for teachers.

Ahmed shared that the HEC would also launch collaboration to bring Korean students to acquire higher education in Pakistan.

Dr Syed Raza Ali, Yonsei University, Dr Nadia Khadam, Hanyang University, Dr Muhammad Arshad, Yonsei University and Adil Nawaz, Hanyang University shared their academic experience at the event.
