KARACHI:
An advertisement carried in Tuesday’s editions of several Urdu- and Sindhi-language dailies resulted in the suspension of another officer of the Sindh police on Wednesday.
The purported ad has the photos of six ‘missing persons’ and claims that they were picked up by ‘unidentified Rangers personnel’.
On the directives of Home Minister Sohail Anwer Siyal, police chief Hyder Jamali suspended SSP Investigation Lateef Siddiqui, who is abroad on an official trip.
He was suspended for issuing the covering letter to the Sindh Information Department for publishing the ‘missing persons’ ad.
A day earlier, DSP Fakhrul Islam Usmani, the sub-divisional police officer of Orangi Town, was also suspended over the announcement, which appealed to the citizens of Karachi to help the police locate the six men, who were reported as missing at the Mominabad and Orangi Town police stations.
Talking to The Express Tribune, a senior police officer claimed that the advertisement was a deliberate attempt to create rifts between the Sindh police and the paramilitary Rangers.
