Criminals in Karachi

Letter October 08, 2015
The ground realities in some areas of Karachi regarding the law and order are quite different

KARACHI: The law-enforcement agencies may be correct in claiming that the law and order situation in Karachi has improved to a great extent. However, the ground realities in some areas are quite different. Just recently, a robber trespassed into a house in my neighbourhood. My neighbour is an old, ill, respected and renowned journalist and editor. The robber was unable to find any valuables but killed the young niece of his wife. There was no other person in the house. The incident has left a gross sense of insecurity in my entire neighbourhood.

A week ago, another neighbour was robbed at his doorstep while leaving for work. A friend living in the same vicinity was looted in the SITE area some two weeks earlier. The criminals are resurfacing, if not all over Karachi, then certainly in some localities. I think the police and other law-enforcement agencies have to be more active in controlling street crimes and robbers.
