BATKHELA:

A walk was held in Batkhela, Malakand on Tuesday to raise awareness about taking preventative measures against dengue fever.

The initiative was organised by the health department, district administration and district council. Participants marched from Batkhela Bazaar towards Batkhela Bus Stand. They held placards and banners inscribed with slogans and messages regarding the cause.

“We can only rid the country of the virus by conducting fumigation drives to eliminate dengue mosquitoes,” one of the speakers at the walk said.  “We need to take precautionary measures to protect ourselves. Residents must destroy the breeding sites of dengue mosquitoes, use nets and lotions and keep water cans and pots covered.”

The event was attended by a large number of government representatives and activists. Provincial deputy director of dengue control programme, Dr Jahanzeb, district naib nazim Colonel (retd) Ibrar Hussain, Assistant Commissioner Ishfaq Ahmad Tarani and District Councillor Amjad Ali Shah were among those who were present on the occasion.

“So far around 190 cases of dengue fever have been registered in Batkhela,” another speaker said. “Of these, 173 patients have been discharged from hospitals after
being treated.”
