Revamping of roads

The road that leads towards Raiwind has been under construction for almost 1.5 years and is still incomplete

LAHORE: A lot of trouble has been created for the people living about three kilometres from Thokar Niaz Beg, Lahore. The road that leads towards Raiwind has been under construction for almost 1.5 years and is still incomplete. Many accidents have resulted due to the carelessness of the authorities. They have failed to put up diversion signs on the roads, leading to many drivers being confused. The other problem is that every day, there are new road barriers and obstacles which have known to be causing accidents. Traffic is directed on to one single road with two lanes running opposite each other. The congestion problem is compounded by speeding vehicles and impatient drivers, who attempt to pass vehicles using the oncoming lanes, resulting in traffic jams and accidents.

Another problem is that there are no street lights on the road that leads to Raiwind from Thokar Niaz Beg. More accidents result as drivers cannot see the road construction ahead. Poorly placed bulldozers routinely cause traffic jams. Repeatedly revamping the roads won’t get the authorities anywhere and will only cause trouble for ordinary citizens. The relevant authorities must visit this area to assess and speed up the work in progress. The first steps would be to install road diversion signs and street lights in the area.
