ISLAMABAD: The top election supervisory body has made a minor change in the schedule for the second phase of local government polls in Sindh.

The scrutiny of nomination papers was to take place from September 26 to October 1. However, the Election Commission of Pakistan announced through a notification on Wednesday that the scrutiny would now be conducted from September 28 to October 2.

The date of the second phase of the elections remains the same: 15 districts of Sindh will go to the polls on November 19, the notification of which was issued on September 3.

In the revised schedule, only the date for scrutiny of nomination papers has been changed. The decision was apparently taken in view of holidays for Eidul Azha.

According to the new notification, the returning officers will examine nomination papers from September 28 to October 2. Appeals against the decisions of the ROs can be filed until October 6.

The appellant tribunals will decide the appeals by October 12, following which the list of contestants will be finalised on October 14.

The districts of Sindh that will go to the polls on November 19 are Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushahro Feroze, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Tharparkar.
