ISLAMABAD: The first competition of the Great Debate, a British High Commission initiative to improve public speaking and critical thinking skills, was held at National University of Science and Technology on Tuesday. The competition featured various topics including the role of media in the image of Pakistan in 2047 and whether Pakistan’s geographical location is an advantage or disadvantage, inspired by the theme —  Pakistan 2047. Participants were given the specific topics at the venue and a limited time to form the content of their debate and were judged on factors including presentation, argument and knowledge of the subject matter. The Great Debate competition will take place in 12 key cities of Pakistan from where 12 winners will then move to the grand final where the winner of the Great Debate competition will be announced and be awarded with the British High Commission Scholarship.
