ABBOTABAD: Three people, including two women, died of dengue while more than 200 were treated for the virus at Ayub Teaching Hospital in Abbottabad in the last six weeks, official sources told The Express Tribune on Tuesday.

Coordinator for Dengue Programme at ATH Dr Shahid said 261 patients at the hospital tested positive for dengue. “Two women from Mansehra district and one man from Haripur district succumbed to the virus, while 27 of the 261 patients are still under treatment,” he said.

Dr Shahid said majority of the patients at ATH belonged to Mansehra and Haripur districts. However, a few patients hail from Abbottabad, Kohistan and Battagram as well. He said, “Other than the 27, everyone has been discharged from the hospital following complete recovery.”

When asked about the validity of test reports, the doctor said all test results have been sent to NIH in Islamabad for further investigation.

He said the weather in Hazara is changing, bringing frequent showers and cold weather. “Therefore, reports of people contracting dengue are likely to decline over the next few days here,” he said. However, fumigation is under way in areas at a higher risk for dengue.
