New students at Bacha Khan University took to the streets on Wednesday against the administration for imposing a fine on them for late payment of admission dues. Somewhat successful, the protest resulted in the reduction of the R4,000 to Rs1,000.

PTI K-P Organiser Fazal Muhammad Khan reached the main campus, where the protest was held, and helped the students negotiate with the university’s administration. Khan told The Express Tribune, “The mission of our party is to make quality education accessible to all, regardless of their economic background, and that is why I negotiated with the university’s administration.”

An official from the university requesting anonymity told The Express Tribune students were informed time and time again through the university’s website and newspapers about the last date for the payment of tuition fees. He said, “The deadline was even extended. However, the students failed to submit their dues.” The official added that was why a fine was imposed. The fine, however, has now been reduced to Rs1,000 as mentioned earlier.
