Crime round-up: Rangers disclose arrest of two political workers

Separately, Pirabad police recover two abducted traders

KARACHI: The paramilitary force disclosed on Friday the arrests of two Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) workers, allegedly involved in various cases of target killings. Both the notorious target killers were presented before an anti-terrorism court and given in the custody of Rangers for 90 days.

The arrested were identified as Mirza Zeeshan Baig alias Shani and Tanvir Ahmed alias Babwa Bihari. They were arrested by the paramilitary force on Thursday night during a targeted raid conducted in Gulshan-e-Maymar. Sources said that both the detained political workers were close aides of the MQM election cell member, Umair Siddiqui, who has already been arrested and is accused of involvement in more than 120 cases of target killings.

Targeted operation

Separately, over one dozen suspects were detained during an overnight targeted operation in parts of Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

The operation was conducted in Hussain Hazara Goth, Madina Colony and Waseem Bagh localities. An extra contingent of law enforcers participated in the operation. The police detained nearly 15 suspects while weapons were also recovered from the possession of a few of them.

Recovered

Meanwhile, the Pirabad police claim to have recovered two abducted traders from the captivity of kidnappers. They have also arrested two alleged kidnappers during the raid conducted in Muhammad Pur, Orangi Town.

Police officials said that the arrested kidnappers were identified as Raheel and Shahid alias Dilshad. They added that they have safely recovered the two abductees, identified as Mudassir and Aurangzeb, from their captivity and also recovered weapons.

Muhammad pur police post incharge Imran Gujjar said that Mudassir was kidnapped from Saddar while Aurangzeb was kidnapped from Orangi Town. Police officials said that the kidnappers had demanded Rs1 million as ransom for their release and warned of dire consequences. They added that the arrests were made when the kidnappers had arrived to collect the money.
