Second phase of Sindh, Punjab LG polls on Nov 19

According to the ECP, polling will be conducted on November 19 in 15 districts of Sindh and 12 districts of Punjab

The country’s top poll supervisory body on Thursday notified the schedule for the second phase of the local government (LG) elections in Sindh and Punjab.


According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), polling will be conducted on November 19 in 15 districts of Sindh and 12 districts of Punjab.

Once an official notification of the schedule is issued, no changes can be made in the voter lists in either province.

Moreover, both the provincial governments will be barred from transferring or posting any public servant, unless approved by the ECP.

In Punjab the people would go to the polls in Khanewal, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Attock and Jhelum.

In Sindh votes will be cast in Matiari, Tando Allah Yar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushahro Feroze, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Tharparkar.

According to the notification, a public notice will be issued by the returning officers (ROs) on September 9, and candidates can submit their nomination papers to the ROs until September 17.

Last month, the ECP had announced that the first phase of the long delayed LG polls in Sindh and Punjab will be held on October 31. In Punjab the people would go to the polls in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Lodhran, Vehari, Okara, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Kasur, Nankana Sahib and Chakwal. In Sindh votes will be cast in Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Shikarpur, Qamber-Shahdadkot, Jacobabad and Kashmore.
