A court in Islamabad indicted on Thursday Muhammad Asif Nazar aka DJ Butt for violating a ban on loudspeakers in the capital during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) sit-in last year, Express News reported.

DJ Butt whose beats punctuated political rhetoric during the PTI’s sit-in against alleged rigging in 2013 general elections denied charges during the hearing. Following this, the court asked the accused to produce evidence on September 10 to support his statement.

Speaking to media outside the court, DJ Butt said the court told him he had caused 'nuisance' for Islamabad residents as he played music in the Parliament Lodges and D-Chowk during the political activity.

On August 24, Islamabad Assistant Commissioner Secretariat Waqas Rasheed approved pre-arrest bail for Butt after he appeared before the court.

On July 24, after much ado over the outstanding dues, PTI had agreed to pay Rs2.5 million to the entertainer against his demand of Rs80 million.

Further, earlier this month, Lahore High Court had restrained the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) from proceeding against Butt. PRA had issued a tax notice to DJ Butt for Rs17 million and summoned him on July 23 for neither registering himself nor paying due sales tax to Punjab government, however, he had challenged the legality of a show-cause notice issued to him on July 7 by the authority.

Butt rose to fame during the PTI’s in Islamabad last year and made headlines again with the claim he was ‘treated by the party like a football’.
