ISLAMABAD: After a hiatus of several days, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the government's negotiation teams resumed their talks on Wednesday. The two sides almost agreed on the draft of the agreement and hopefully will hold their final round of talks on Thursday (today).

According to details, both the parties agreed on the draft of the agreement, legal contents and composition of the proposed Grievances Redressal Committee (GRC).

On August 12, the MQM resigned from parliament and the Sindh Assembly, citing what it called victimisation in the ongoing targeted operation. Presenting 19 reasons for the resignations, the party demanded formation of a monitoring committee, release of innocent workers and investigation by a judicial commission into extrajudicial killings of its activists.

Sources said that on Thursday the Karachi-based political party and the government team after having their final round of negotiation are likely to issue draft of the agreement.

The MQM would consult with its leader Altaf Hussain and after getting his approval about the draft it would ask the government to issue the draft of the agreement, they added.

Previously, the government was reluctant to notify the proposed committee and its composition. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was asked to intervene in the matter but he refused and asked the government team to continue its talks.
