FAISALABAD:

Center for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries expert Macel Oosterweer has said that the decline in textile exports is alarming despite the grant of GSP Plus status to Pakistan.

The body will extend guidance, training and technical support to help Pakistan increase its exports to the Netherlands and other EU countries. He was addressing a meeting of exporters and industrialists on Tuesday. “It is mandatory for all EU countries to allocate a sizeable amount in their annual budget for the promotion of international trade,” said Oosterweer.

“Netherlands has decided to invest in training and capacity building, enabling developing countries to improve the quality of their exportable surplus and thus, increase their exports to the developed countries.” According to Oosterweer, the main cause of decline in Pakistani textile exports is lack of product range and innovation.
