Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani has accused the Indian government of trying to divert attention from its internal failure by resorting to unprovoked firing to create unrest on the border with Pakistan, Radio Pakistan reported on Sunday.

“Innocent children and women were targeted during the recent Indian firing,” Rabbani told newsmen during his visit to inquire about the health of injured civilians at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Sialkot.

“India’s hypocrisy has been exposed before the whole world,” Rabbani said, adding that the Pakistan Armed Forces and the people of Pakistan will respond effectively to the aggression of Indian forces.

The Senate chairman, who belongs to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), paid tribute to the team of doctors and surgeons at the CMH for sparing no effort to provide relief to those injured by Indian firing on Friday.

Further, Rabbani urged the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) to take notice of the unprovoked firing and shelling by the Indian forces alongside the working boundary and the Line of Control (LoC).

“It is very unfortunate that the OIC is silent despite the deaths of so many innocent civilians by the unprovoked Indian firing.”

The chairman of the Senate also revealed that the Modi government did not respond the positive efforts of Pakistan for resolving the outstanding issues through dialogue.

Responding to a question, he said: “I will urge Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take steps for the protection of villages situated along the working boundary on permanent basis.”
