NAB holds meeting ahead of country review

Preparatory meeting of governmental experts held at NAB headquarters

A meeting was held at the NAB headquarters to coordinate and arrange the country review of Pakistan under the auspicious of United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) by joint reviewers from Norway and Solomon Islands including experts from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime from September 7 to September 10.

The purpose of the country visit is to assist the joint reviewers of Pakistan in the country assessment of the implementation of the articles under the convention.

The preparatory meeting of governmental experts was chaired by NAB Prosecutor General Accountability (PGA) Waqas Qadeer Dar and attended by NAB International Cooperation Wing Director Zafarullah Khan, NAB Additional Director Zafar Iqbal Khan, NAB Deputy Director Muhammad Shoaib, NAB Senior Legal Consultant Osman Karim Khan, NAB Banking Expert Operations Division Sohail Ahmed and others

NAB Deputy Director and Focal Person Country Review Umer Zaman gave a detailed presentation on the background of the convention, the guiding principles of the UNCAC review mechanism and requirements of the upcoming country review of Pakistan.

NAB Prosecutor General Accountability Dar said that the bureau was the focal institution of Pakistan under the UNCAC.

He said all ministries/divisions/departments including the NAB (as the focal agency) should meet the requirements of the joint reviewers in the effective implementation of UN convention during the upcoming country visit of Pakistan.

Emad | 8 years ago | Reply Legislation needs to be passed to make this institution apolitical, if it can't then make a military person the head so that governments cannot politicize the processes
