Road accidents: Two killed, 13 injured in separate incidents

According to Rescue 1122 data on an average more than 4,000 road accidents occur annually in Rawalpindi

At least two people died and 13 others sustained injuries in two road accidents in Gujar Khan and Rawat on Thursday.


In the first incident that took place at GT Road near Rawat Radio Station at around 7:30am a van on its way from Lahore to Rawalpindi hit a car after rolling over because of its rear tyre burst, Rescue 1122 emergency service sources said. As a result, one of the passengers onboard the van died and 12 others sustained multiple injuries.

The injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi.

In another incident, a 60-year-old man died and his grandson got injured in a road accident in Daultala, in Gujar Khan Tehsil of Rawalpindi, the police said.

Muhammad Riaz and his grandson were riding towards Jatli bus stop when their motorcycle rammed into a tractor trolley in Dhoke Kaku area, while overtaking it. Riaz, a resident of Data Butt, died on spot and his grandson is stated to be in critical condition at the District Headquarters Hospital.

According to Rescue 1122 data on an average more than 4,000 road accidents occur annually in Rawalpindi. Ignorance of traffic rules, poor infrastructure and speed violations are among major reasons of such accidents.
