KARACHI: A panel of doctors looking after injured Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmaker Rashid Godil at Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) in Karachi has decided to soon shift him from Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to a ward as his life is now out of danger, the hospital spokesperson said on Monday.
“Rashid Godil will be shifted to a ward very soon after confirmation from the doctor’s panel,” Dr Anjum Rizvi said, while addressing the media outside the LNH.

Further, the hospital spokesperson announced that the MQM MNA's condition has significantly improved and he is now out of danger.
“He is now in a position to be shifted from the ICU; however, doctors are waiting for the reports of some of his tests,” Dr Rizvi said, adding that they will shift Godil after reviewing the reports.
However, the spokesperson did not confirm the day when the MNA will be shifted from the ICU. “He may be shifted in a day or two.”
Last week, the MQM lawmaker had been removed from ventilator on a trial basis as his condition continued to steadily improve.

Clarifying that Godil was not yet out of danger, Dr Rizvi said the parliamentarian had started to show natural responses and that it was a sign of recovery. “We are trying to check if he can do well without the support of a ventilator,” Dr Rizvi added.
Godil was attacked by four armed men on motorcycles in Bahadurabad locality of Karachi last week. He received gunshot wounds to his jaw, neck and upper torso, causing massive damage to his lungs. Godil’s driver, Abdul Mateen, was killed in the attack.
MQM chief calls Godil to inquire about his health
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain called on Rashid Godil and inquired about his health.
“We have prayed day and night for your early recovery,” Altaf Hussain said, while on call with the injured MNA.
Altaf also spoke to Rashid’s son and implored him to take care of his father.
