LAHORE: The city police hae raided six seminaries and examined the particulars of 1,500 students enrolled with them during a two-day search operation.
The raiding teams issued notices to the management of these seminaries, warning them to admit students only after verifying their identity documents. The notices also asked the seminaries to record complete information about people visiting the students.
Meanwhile, an ongoing operation against criminals in the city continued on Sunday and 110 proclaimed offenders were arrested from various public places over the weekend.
Operations DIG Haider Ashraf said eight people were arrested in raids carried out at hotels and guest houses in the vicinity of the City railway station and the Lorry Adda. He said they had failed to produce documents to establish their identity. He said 19 cases were registered for violations of the Tenancy and the Loudspeaker Acts.
The police also arrested 39 people for drug peddling and seized 17kg hashish, 14kg hemp and 1.5kg opium from them. In other raids, 34 people were arrested for peddling unlicensed arms and 26 for gambling. The raiding team confiscated 21 pistols, eight rifles and more than 750 bullets and cartridges.
Investigation SSP Rana Ayaz Saleem said a list of suspicious personnel believed to be present in the city had been shared with police stations concerned.
