MUZAFFRABAD: The education department of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has suspended as many as 48 assistant education officers (AEOs) over the zero per cent results and unsatisfactory performance.

Education secretary Raja Abbas Khan suspended the AEOs in three divisions of the region for showing poor performance and zero monitoring of the educational institutions under their control in 10 districts.

“We have ordered an inquiry and formed a team that will submit a report within 15 days”, the secretary said.

He added that poor performance will not be tolerated in a department that consumes nearly 40 per cent of AJK’s budget, and where not a single student from the government schools had topped in any of examination for the last three years.

More than 400 teachers have already been suspended for showing zero per cent results in primary and middle standard examinations.

The secretary education further said that almost 40,000 teachers are assigned to 0.4 million students in government institutions, while only 3,000 teachers teach 0.1 million private schools students.

He said private schools were not only showing excellent results, but that for the last three years, toppers for both middle and 10th grade examinations were private school students.

The secretary added that under a ‘now or never’ policy, government teachers will be asked to bring their performance at par with private schools.
