The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved the establishment of a regional blood transfusion centre in Faisalabad at a cost of Rs400 million.


DCO Noorul Amin Mengal told newsmen on Thursday that land was being acquired from the Irrigation Department for this purpose.

He said the project would be completed by the government in collaboration with the German government. He said the centre would provide to safe blood products public and private hospitals when needed.

He said it would have international-standard storage facilities and would be equipped with modern machinery. He said it would provide blood to emergency cases in the region.

He said transfusions for patients of Thalassemia, haemophilia, cancer and those injured accidents would be available at the centre. Hilal-i-Ahmar Maternity Hospital Medical Superintendent Hafiz Mukhar Randawa said the blood transfusion centre would also have a research facility.

Development projects

The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) also approved 26 other projects, including 14 road construction and rehabilitation works, and allocated Rs26. 09 billion for them.

The PDWP approved revisions to a Punjab E-Gateway Project (electronic governance initiative) and allocated Rs1.459 billion for the purpose. It allocated Rs250 million for restructuring of the Punjab Economic Research Institute.

Other projects approved by the PWDP were related to irrigation, water and sanitation, agriculture, education and health sectors.

In irrigation sector, a project was approved for lining of watercourses across the province at a cost of Rs9.316 billion.

A Rs34.9 million grant was separately approved for lining of watercourses in Chak No469/GB, Samundri, Faisalabad district.

Two projects were approved for the Agriculture Department. A Rs1.35 billion subsidy was approved for provision of laser land levellers to farmers and others interested in purchase of the equipment for commercial use. A separate project for promotion of mechanised farming was approved at Rs1.18 billion.

In the education sector, Rs600 million was approved for a merit scholarship scheme for elementary and secondary school students; Rs351.5 million for a Taleem Sab Kay Liye (Education For All) project; Rs724.03 million for 50 overseas PhD Scholarships for University of Agriculture graduates.

Other projects were establishment of a model cattle market in Faisalabad district at a cost of Rs320.7 million and construction of a sewage treatment plant and an intermediate sewage pumping station in Rahim Yar Khan district at the cost of Rs. 288.022 million.

Road construction and rehabilitation

The road works approved by the PDWP were dualisation of Shahi Road from Rahim Yar Khan to Bahadarpur Chowk in Rahim Yar Khan district; rehabilitation of a road from Raiwind to Pattoki in Kasur; widening/improvement of a road from Faisal Chowk to Darya Khan Road in Bhakkar; dualisation of a 21.5 km stretch of provincial highway in Pakpattan; widening/improvement of a 33.5 km stretch of Rajar Road and Ahmadabad motorway interchange in Khushab district; rehabilitation/re-construction of a 28.47 km road from Faisalabad to Lahore Road in Sargodha district; construction/rehabilitation of a 15.3 km road from Haire to Suay Asal in Lahore; construction of a flyover at Sublime Chowk on Sialkot-Wazirabad Road in Sialkot district; construction of a dual carriageway from Teen Meela to Sanjwal in Attock; construction of metalled roads from Awan Kot, Chobora Road, to Janay Wala in Layyah and from Head Lal to Bangla Yasmeen in Layyah; construction of a 26.75 km road from MM Road to Head Mast Ali in Layyah district; widening and dualisation of a road from Chak No97-M, Chamb Mor, to Khanwah Ghalwan in Lodhran; widening and improvement of a road from Khidar Wala Road to Raja Chowk in Gojra tehsil (Toba Tek Singh district).
