RAWALPINDI:

After an addition of two more patients, the total number of dengue patients in Rawalpindi has reached 10, according to anti-dengue campaign in-charge Dr Tahir Ahmed.

One of the patients is said to be a resident of Mohallah Chah Sultan while the other belongs to Chahan, a rural area of Rawalpindi.

Ahmed confirmed that of the total 10 dengue patients in the city, one is admitted at the Holy Family Hospital, one in Benazir Bhutto Hospital and two in the District Headquarters Hospital. Six had been discharged after recovery, he added.

In reply to a question, he said some dengue patients required transfusion of platelets. The blood bank of Allied Hospitals has sufficient quantity to meet the demand of blood and platelets, he assured.

Platelets are needed when a patient’s blood lacks normal clotting ability. Fever may lead to bleeding, low level of platelets and blood plasma leakage, or into dengue shock syndrome which is low blood pressure, he shared.

The in-charge said all efforts are being made to control dengue cases in the district, adding that dengue fever situation is under control.

Deputy District Health Officer Dr Aamir Sheikh said a full-scale fumigation drive is under way in different localities of the city especially where dengue larva has been found.

He advised residents to take precautionary measures and not to panic as dengue fever is curable with timely and proper treatment.
