ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Government Assurance has given 15 days to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) to resolve the issue of gas supply to Sector I-16 of the capital. Speaking at the committee’s meeting on Wednesday, which was chaired by Senator Agha Shahbaz Khan Durrani, Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Maroof Afzal said that despite depositing the demand notice amount into SNGPL’s account, gas connections were still not provided to Sector I-16, and that the civic agency holds records of all correspondence with the gas company in this regard. The authority’s chief said SNGPL had now asked for an additional demand notice. Expressing displeasure, the committee directed SNGPL officials to produce for the committee CDA’s cheque receipts and letters. Ministry of Water and Power Additional Secretary Umar Rasool told the committee that Islamabad Electric Supply Company had provided all 53 applicants from Sector I-16 with connections.
