PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Commission ordered the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs on Wednesday to expedite work on creating an official website.

This was decided during a meeting at the RTI Commission office on Wednesday. The commission said the website will ensure transparency and accountability. Through this initiative, the directorate will ensure proactive disclosure of information as enshrined in the RTI Act 2013.

The meeting was attended by Sports Director Tariq Mehmood, Chief Information Commissioner Sahibzada Muhammad Khalid, Commissioner Abdul Matin and Professor Kalimullah.

“It is the people’s right to have information about the activities of the directorate,” said Khalid. “They must know how much money has been allocated to various districts in the budget for sports-related activities and how efficiently these funds are being utilised.”

Khalid urged the sports director to set up the official website as soon as possible. He added all public bodies must ensure proactive disclosure of information which will not only ensure transparency but reduce the burden on public information officers (PIOs).

While talking about the information which should be uploaded to the website, Kalimullah said the law requires all public bodies and institutions receiving funds from provincial exchequer to disclose information on their budget allocation, spending, rules of business and other activities.
