PESHAWAR/ BANNU:

Jet fighters bombed militant hideouts in the North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday, killing at least 10 terrorists as the air offensive in the region continued for a fourth consecutive day.

“Precise air strikes were carried out in the Shawal valley of North Waziristan Agency,” Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. “Pakistan Air Force jet fighters heavily pounded militant positions, killing 10 terrorists.”

Scores of terrorist hideouts were also destroyed in the air strikes, the military’s media wing added.

Intelligence officials who spoke to Reuters suggested the toll could be much higher. “Jet air bombing destroyed five militant hideouts and killed 25 militants,” said one of the two officials who confirmed the death toll to the news agency.

If accurate, this would take the number of insurgents killed in the region this week to 133. According to ISPR, air strikes killed 18 suspected militants on Tuesday, 50 on Monday and 40 on Sunday.
